Well, OK, are we maybe talking about not only reproducing the stock mounts, but maybe improving on them? I've had a few ideas on that front over the years...the stock '62-'66 style mounts work OK, nothing really wrong with them, but there are stronger designs that are better in one or more ways. I'm thinking for example of the vertical-shear mounts that were used in the '60-'61 A-bodies (and in the trans mount from '62-'72).
I'm thinking a set of improved stock replacement mounts. They won't require using different brackets. This way I can keep the cost and effort to a minimum. The biggest differences are in the materials and that I will add something inside to prevent them from coming apart if the rubber peels off its backing plates. I can probably get them in different durometers depending on whether you want a daily driver or a racing buildup.

AFAIK nobody makes polyurethane engine mounts for '67-'72 Slant-6 A-bodies.
Those can be next. :)

If these really take off, I might consider a run of something more ambitious, like a spool mount conversion, or a way of using modern liquid-filled motor mounts in an A-body.

What I would like to see addressed is the fore/aft flexibility of the early mounts, perhaps polyurethane would do that. I have seen more than one early A-body with a circle inscribed on the radiator where the engine has pitched forward during a panic stop or mild collision, pushhing the fan into the radiatior. There is precious little clearance anyway and the thick, soft rubber of the stock mounts allows a lot of movement.

dakight, that happened to my Dart too - in fact, it was the reason why the car was for sale. I'll see if I can come up with anything - probably a different cross-section to give them the same stiffness in compression and tension, but much higher stiffness in torsion and shear.

This is exactly why I would like to see vertical-shear mounts just like the very robust '60-'61 items. They saved a few pennies per mount by going to the '62-'66 sandwich-style mount, which is unfortunately just how the car industry works. But even the original rubber (not poly) '60-'61 items last a lonnnnng time without allowing the kind of fore/aft engine flop you mention here. They also do a better job of restraining engine roll about the axis. The '73-up spool-type mounts likewise do a better job restraining the engine, but I'm not sure they have enough cushion to them to be completely acceptable in the earlier cars (which don't have cushion-mounted bodies and other NVH isolation measures added in the early-mid '70s).

As far as liquid-filled engine mounts...color me skeptical. They've always ever seemed to me to have a shorter service life and a much higher replacement cost, without any enormous huge benefit.

Got any pictures of the vertical-shear mounts?

Pictures...can probably come up with some if you'll give me some time. I even have NOS vertical-shear '61 mounts. Of course they bolt right onto any year slant-6 engine, but they don't drop directly onto a '62-'66 car, because the mounting tabs (where the mount bolts to the K-frame) are located a little differently). Doesn't seem like this would be difficult to change if one were interested in making new steel brackets anyhow.

I'm not sure if they are the right ones but doesn't the slant and v-8 use the the same mount? I have a 74 and would like poly's for it but they only have v-8 spool type mounts. If the 62-66 is the same then year one sells a blow prof stye biscuit motor mount.

There is a thickness difference in some years.
Several years ago, I replaced motor mounts. At idle, in gear, there was an ugly noise. It turned out that one engine mount was too short, and the pan was contacting the K-member. The mount (Passenger side, IIRC) was actually for a V8 car. It was about 3/8" too thin.
A new mount from a different vendor, for a Slant six, was thicker and solved the problem.
Sorry, I don't remember the vendors involved, and I can't seem to find the thread on search.

Imperial Services is in final stages of tooling for really nice polyurethane left and right mounts, made in America, with internal lock plates, for '62-'66 A-bodies with slant-6s! Just got off the phone with Steve over there, and it surely sounds as if these are going to be the excellent-quality upgrade mount we've been after for quite a few years for these cars. That's the good news. The bad news is that in all likelihood they won't be shipping until 1/07.

Good to hear that, Dan! I haven't been able to give these things front burner status, as I've had a lot of other things to worry about. Glad to hear that someone's picked up this. I might have to order a pair myself.
