Thats weird... When I had my 87, 318 2 bbl B 250, I got 16 in town and I kid you not, 21 MPG with the cruise set to about 63. That was a 127" wb, non maxi van. With the A/C on, it was 19.something. that was the "wagon" model, windows and all. And 2.94 gears, with no problem squealing the tires at will. Towed fine too when needed. |

That's very good economy for that van. Towed fine? That's pretty vague. When I talk about towing I mean hooking up a loaded car trailer and loading the van with everything I take to the race track. It was about 11,000lbs combined. The 4.10s were much better than the 3.54s. |

Today I borrowed by brother's compact John Deere tractor. By compact I mean it's a little 3 cylinder diesel 4x4 which only weighs about 4000 lbs. Between the van, the 4 engine blocks in the van, the trailer and tractor it went across the scales at 11,500 lbs. There is an unattended weigh station on the way with an outside display so I had to stop. It tows well enough, but the 4.10s would have been better. I would have also liked a weight distributing hitch as the front axle of the van was only 2300 lbs and the rear was 4650. Gotta love full floating axles! |
