Post subject:  turbocharge a slant six!

First of all you have to take stock in what you have. It is not a good idea to stuff a Turbo on a tired old girl. If she has more than 50'000 miles on her she'll need some engine work to take the Boost!
Then you have to decide on how many problems you want to over come.
Are you ready to change everything about the engine (A High Boost Motor!) Or are you going to keep it real and not get crazy (Eight pounds boost or LESS!)
The first option will require extensive rework of the entire engine and every system will need modification to run the turbo.
The second option is a little easier. with only the Carburetor, timing and fuel delivery needing modifications.
The first option will require a canshaft ground to a profile that reduces the over-lap between the intake and exhaust events of valve open timing. Fuel injection is needed to overcome the problems carburetors have with boost. the ignition will need some sort of mechanical or electronic means of Retarding the timing or the engine will scatter. The higher you spin the engine, the more retard you will need.
the second option will require fabricating an enclosure for either the mouth of the carburetor or a box that completely encloses the carburetor. the fuel pump will need a helping hand from a high pressure pump mounted near the fuel tank and a pressure regulator just before the carburetor that is not effected by the boost or applies more pressure as the boost5 builds in the system (Don't freak-out, I'm only taking one or two pounds!) The floats in the carburetor will need to be resin foam (Holley has this type of floats available for their carburetors!) And you still need to retard the timing as you build RPMs/Boost.
How do I know this!?! I am building a balls to the walls slanty that should spin the dyno at 350 horse or more. If you want to know what I am doing, say so and I'll send you my email address and we can do a build-up together. There isn't enough room left for all the details.
