The stand off tubes are to make the oil puddle around the lifters. The lifter bores where groved to direct oil down on to the cam.
Ingition band is the MSD6AL with Blaster 2 coil.
Cooling is a BeCool AL rad with dual 11" Spal fans (pullers) and a Spal controller. Alternator and wiring has been up graded to a modern 100 amp out of an Intrepid.

ARRRRG. Very frustrating. Dyno testing is being pushed back again. The good news is the motor is done. The bad news is that the shop where we plan to test the motor was broken into and about $60,000 worth of engines, and tools where stolen. The good news is that the dyno wasn't messed with. The bad news is it has set them back about 4-5 days.

Brennan, Everything about this post is cool! Thanks for sharing. . What are the stand off tubes for in the lifter valley? I am eager to see how this baby runs, and what kind of power you get.
Sam
One thing that was doen on my head was where the oil returns. The guy that ported the head ground and smoothed it where the oil returns. I did that on a set of SB heads I am working on.

Wish me luck. :D

Will you have an oscilloscope hooked up so you can keep track of secondary ignition voltage? That would add tremendously to what can be learnt from the data you're collecting.

Not sure if they have one.

Dyno predictions:
I asked for more HP and torque than a stock 440.
He smiled a few days ago and sayed with a grin "nooo problem"
While I feel that this was an unrealistic goal for a Slant, your motor guy missed it a ton. I think 275 was realistic, and they didn't get close to that either.

Unless they really screwed the head up porting it you have major tuning issues that will net you a bunch more power I believe.

At least all the pieces stayed inside. :D

In case you are wondering, my good motor makes roughly 250ish off the hose.

What CR are you running on that motor? Is that a race fuel only motor?

When I get the motor in the car I am heading to the chassis dyno.

I am just under 11-1. Without the hose it runs best on 93 pump gas.

Just remember that a chassis dyno will give 18-20% lower numbers than an engine dyno.

18% - 20%? I was thinking it would be about 25%. What are your (anyone) thoughts on some of the other issues?
Blowing out the tape.
Contamination of the air.
“This dyno’s results are not inflated"
They seemed delighted with the 300.9 ftlbs. Is this a really good number?

humm, I surprized that I am not getting much responce here. :? Is it that this thread is lost in the heap or does no one have any comments on some of my consurns?

Patience my friend. The thread is only a few hours old. There will be responses when people get settled in to read later on this even. Remember it's not even 5:00 yet on the west coast.

Here are a few dumb questions that I have:

1. Is the cam off? (Really dumb, but possible, did the cam eat a lobe?)

2. What was the vacuum at idle and at WOT?

3. Any readings on A/F ratio from a wide band O2 sensor?

4. Can the dyno guy show you how/when his dyno was calibrated?

5. What was the oil level? Could the engine have been overfilled significantly?

I am trying to think of obscure or obvious issue that could give you the results that you got. I loved the video. Your engine sounds great.

I'm thinking ... this are good suggestions, but I'm stumped. I would have expected like 270 horses at least. CR was? ?
