There's generally no call to pay the extra markup and shipping from places like Paddock for repair parts that can still be had locally. Buy the premium "BlueStreak" brand from Standard, or NAPA Echlin, and you'll be fine.

Hey Guys, I finally had time to get my feet wet this past saturday. I started going through the engine compartment wiring and its not as bad as I first thought. I bought some new wiring and am going to start replacing one at a time that needs it. I also bought a new electrical voltage regulator, balast resistor, and starter relay (I'm just starting to replace as I go along). I have some questions though. First, do they sell the wiring that plugs into the resistor (it has a black end connector with 2 wires coming out of one and another one with just one wire) and Alternator and such? Also I am replacing the power cable from the battery and it has the secondary wire but the current one has a thick secondary and the one I bought isnt as thick, will this make a difference? I also noticed in the wiring diagram that it calls for a fusible link. I had never seen one before (honest) I thought it just had an inline fuse. So I went to napa and they sell them where the wire is grayish foam with a black tab in the middle. Wouldnt it be better to just put an inline fuse in there, if so what amp fuse? One last question for now, has anyone ever just removed the wiring harness and used bus bars? Thanks, Dan

No. If you need to replace that wiring, you'll need to use appropriate terminals to accept two wires where needed.

Yes. Add another 10ga wire in parallel with the new battery cable's too-thin 2nd wire.

See this post for information on replacing the original fuselink with a fuse, if that's how you want to proceed.

Mmmmm you're gonna make me do math Dan? Hehehe. The thing is, I don't know where the original fusible link was. There wasn't one in there when I got the car so where does it go; at the firewall or elsewhere? So if the secondary cable from the battery is 10ga then the fusible link connected to that should be 16ga? This is my first slant so be patient with me.

The original fuselink was in the A-1A main feed circuit connected between the starter relay and the bulkhead disconnect. You do have a wiring diagram for the car, right?

Hey this past Saturday I took my alternator to checkers and they ran it and it came back as 'bad'. I asked the guy there if the alternator could have done damage to the wiring and he said it could have OR whatever damaged the wiring damaged the alternator. Do you guys agree with this? I haven't tried hooking up the new alternator yet because I still have to replace some wiring and clean off lots of terminals. Thanks-Dan
