That's awesome Jerry! Quote: Aaron even took his '74 Dart Sport slant six down the track a couple of times. I think he has been bitten by the racing bug. After his first-ever pass on a dragstrip, he comes back all grins and says, "That was awesome!" - even though it was only 12.67 / 53 mph.
I'm glad to hear that. Next he'll be wanting some upgrades... Too Cool! |

I had a good time at the Cowtown event! I hadn't seen Jerry in 4 years so it was nice to see him again and see his son Aaron grown into a man. Though you may have seen pictures of the "Dartster" project, you really can't appreciate it quite as much until you see it in person. Aaron's Dart Sport is beautiful! My Duster was envious! Also, after hearing Aaron's car I can't wait to run 2 1/4" exhaust on mine. Everything about the car was awesome! I pondered running my Duster down the track during the "test n' tune" slot, but I had to leave just as it was starting. There were many beautiful cars in the show category. Of course, everyone has some sort of V8 and they start to all look the same after awhile. Aaron's was the only show car with a Slant! The cars that were there for racing were monsters! Alot of cool cars. It seemed the older cars were putting a hurt on the new Chargers. Also, it seems everywhere I go there are guys that have outrageous claims about the cars they've owned: "In my life, I've had three Dusters, a Hemi Cuda, a Roadrunner, a Super Bee, yadda, yadda, yadda!" I was hanging out by Aaron's car at the show while Jerry and Aaron were off filling out the track paperwork. Then, Mr. I've-Owned-All-the-Greatest-Cars comes walking up: Him: "Is this your car?" Me: "No, it belongs to a friend of mine." Him: "Looks nice, but it looks like he needs to do some engine work." (I knew where he was going, but I played dumb anyway) Me: "Why?" Him: "He needs to put a big ol' V8 in that. Like a 360 or somethin'." Me: "So he can be like every other knucklehead around?" Him: "Well, I've owned ...(insert extended 'yadda, yadda' tirade here) ...and I just think it's better having a V8." Me: "Well, we're Slant enthusiasts. Don't know what else to tell you." All in all, it was well worth the 2 hour drive. It was the first race event I'd ever been to. Jerry commented that one could easily get racing in their blood pretty quick. I know what he means now. I need to find out when my local track is running some "test n' tunes"! |

Thanks for the kind words, Billy. You saw Aaron's car at its worst, and now at its best. Folks, Billy is working on a cool Feather Duster - the one with several aluminum components incorporated into the design to help lighten the load. It may look a little rough now in gray primer, but I expect to see it one day sitting in line with all the other show cars. Rick, if you guys organize another event like this, we'll do our best to be there. You slant six guys need to step up, though. If Aaron and I can brave the heat and drive the 2-1/2 hours through IH-35 traffic and construction, you local boys can help a brother out. I even came prepared with a tablet to take notes from some of you more experienced slant owners, hoping to tune Aaron's car a little better. Oh, one more thing... Sunday, we went up to Waco and picked up a '74 Gold Duster that Aaron bought for his next project. Jerry |
