Well, I did find one more number on the cylinder block. Here's what I have so far: Cylinder block under the most forward spark plug (nothing at the rear): 1 225 R 2 On the engine block under the manifolds: 330-3 On the valve cover is a Chrysler plate with the number: 3735074 Any more suggestions on where else to look? |

Just a bit more about the unit. It's in a cherry harvester made by Orchard Machinery Corporation out of California I think. They bought Dodge pick up front ends and chassis and fabricated the rest to suit. My guess is this one is from the early or mid 70s?

Naw, just trying to help him find parts. A nitrous cherry picker would be cool though. |

On Ebaysuch vehicles often appear in the Dodge truck listings as: RARE, Dodge project truck, missing a few parts including cab, runs good, no title, minimum bid $3250 rock '64d100 |

Yup, a '72-design Dodge truck. We're narrowing in on the year of the engine. Pull one of the spark plugs and see whether it uses a gasket seat or a tapered seat (or just tell us what the spark plug number is). |

Here's the plug: AC Delco R45XLS ![]() I'm pretty sure I'll end up using this engine. Hopefully I'll be able to screw with the carb in the next couple of days. I'm guessing this engine is a 225 cubic inch? I really appreciate the help on identifying this engine! |

Yep, it's a pre-1975 225. Probably a '72-'74 unit, and that certainly gets you close enough to order parts. There are no mechanical differences in that year range. So...what're your plans? Complete teardown and rebuild? |

Looks like the washer is still on the plug...... You need to remove the washers, the tube does the job of the washer. |

Not quite sure about the rebuild yet. I'll get it running properly and see how much blue smoke comes out the exhaust! Probably will do a compression check on each cylinder. What should the compression readings be? |

I have seen stock Slants run anywhere from 110 to 180 psi. What I look for is an even spread across the board rather than a specific number. Anything above 110 will actually be good enough. |

Thank you very much gentlemen. Got the carb off today and started cleaning it. Should have the beast running in a few days. |

Got the carb cleaned today. I went with muriatic acid as nothing else did anything. My cousin suggested the acid. He told me you gotta work quick and have a bucket of water to immerse it in after a few seconds of dipping it in the acid. Worked like a charm. The engine runs decent even without a carb rebuild!! While I run the starter and turn the engine, it sounds like a couple of the valves leak a bit. All in all, it's a pretty promising unit. |
