i was only planning on using the throttle body and not the whole system. i agree with your opinion that the TPI is not a very good system. depending on how i build the manifold and where i put the TB will depend on what i use. i will be using the MegaSquirt EFI. like i said, i have a LS TB but it is a lot taller than the TPI one. current events in my life, unfortunately, force me to put all my projects on hold, unless it can be done for free.

Unless Dart270 has changed it recently, and he may have, his 64 has been running TBI for years and doing quite well. He started with the Holley Projection system, and then upgraded to MegaSquirt ECU. Except for an initial problem trying to drive low impedence injectors, which he solved, that car is one of the faster slants around. And it starts and drives fine, with a throttle body injector set up.

I have put 300,000 miles on the TBI setup in my work truck (not a slant).

For a beginner or someone who is focused on economy it is pretty hard to beat. It took me 2 days and about $500 to TBI my truck using GM stuff. I have since added a roller cam and Vortec heads. The thing starts and runs better than any carbed version.

The WOT horsepower difference between TBI and MPI is likely undetectable.

I drove Lous TBI 64 last summer......lets just say TBI would be sufficient for my needs.......

TWM Induction makes a 2900-series throttle body that is a bolt-on replacement for the Weber DCOE. That would fit on a Clifford 3 X DCOE intake. But it doesn't come cheap, especially not after you buy everything else that's required to put together a working, drivable package. I don't think that many of us here have that sort of operating budget. But it's fun to dream...

which metal would you prefer for an intake to be made from: aluminum or steel?

i have the ability to weld steel and thats what i was originally going to use. but the guys i work with say aluminum is better. however, i don't know how to weld aluminum. but i could learn depending on how this goes.

I think the big advantage of aluminum is weight.....

But if you're using tubular steel, that would negate aluminums advantage.

I would just use tubular steel, and you can have nice smooth equal length intake runners..............
