So i went to the track again the car was bogging a bit off the line after i'd launch and the track felt a bit slicker cuz i had some tire spin slowest i ran was 10.31 fastest 10.11 after i changed a vacuum spring and fixed the accelerator pump was preloaded. It ran consistanly faster and didn't really bog thats when i did 3 runs in the 10.1's. I need to put a timing light on it to see how i am there then i'll start doing the timing i suspect i need a bigger pump shooter also still a hesitation if i just hammer it with building some rpm even at a roll. Tips are appreciated
oh i'll get some videos up i beat a shelby truck twice , a 2003 grandam , then lost to a beefy 5.0
Thanks, Kev

Kev,

Sounds like you are getting closer on your tuneup there. Great work! 10.10s in a street car is quite good, especially since yours is not so wild. This should put you in the high 15s or so in the 1/4 mile.

108 lobe centers (or lobe separation angle - LSA) is a pretty good spot for the 225. Lots of people feel that 106 is best for hi perf cams and the Slant dimensions. This is the angle between the max lift (lobe centerline) on exhaust vs. the max lift on intake lobes. Closer the lobe centers (LSA), means more rump and higher RPM usage usually. There is an optimum LSA to give best power over a wide RPM range and LSA = 104 to 108 deg is a good place to be.

Looks like i'm going to test n tune this wed. i'm hoping for the 9's in the 1/8th today i've done a few changes since last time when i ran 10.1
Put a lighter spring in the dist
Lightest spring i can use in vacuum secondaries most of my bog went away and it pulls nicely through the gears now if i don't get 9's i'll be shocked if my mph isn't higher. I'll post my times later anyone around my area come to sunshine dragstrip.

I want to try to tinker with the idle circuit maybe the transition is going lean? any ideas but charrlie come to the track or anyone else around here i'm going to sunshine speedway wed. june11
Hopefully i break into the high 9's this time still haven't gotten the rear end finish with the gears/posi trying to locate some good 10 inch small bolt pattern drums.

I won't be able to make it, tonight. I'm have a new roof put on my house, and have to be here, while the workers are here. Sunshine is far enough away, I would have to leave here, by about 3:00 pm at the latest. It was supposed to be done last week, but the supply house only sent half the material.

Maybe next week. Let me know, if you are going.

Ok so the track was a blast it started off a bit disheartening because all the carb work i've been doing and the car ran the first 3 runs doing 10.4's wich is about .3 slower so i got to thinking after eating some chicken tenders that set me back $6.50
The car was not pullin all the way through the gear so i retarded the timing a bit made a run 10.2 some more 10.1 some more the run went great pull nicely even in 2nd gear
r/t .012
60ft 2.19
1/8 10.03 @ 69mph almost hit the 9"s with stock gears

3.73 and posi coming soon

Thanks Charrlie, This week was exellent since i got a tuning gain and i was winning i beat an srt4 by a couple car lengths i tree'd him and he wasn't very good at driving stick i speculated. A station wagon gave me a run for my money it ran a 10.0 but i tree'd him he was on my tail though. Beat an old maro (the 80's ones maybe?) he was running like high 10's and kept up with some mercedes got me though at the end, then to finish things off i got dominated by a stang on nitrous all in all was a great night boy was it toasty during the sunlight hours though. i'm gonna go next week too i'll keep ya posted

Great work, Kev. You'll pick up some time with those 3.73s for sure. Do you have a high stall converter?

my converter stalls close to 3000rpm
any educated estimates on what my times will look like after the 3.73s?
Thanks, Kev

I can't make it to Sunshine, this week. Too much work to catch up on, after getting back from Wilkesboro, one day late. I will try for next Wed.

Assuming your engine pulls strong to 5000, which is likely the case based on your times, I would guess 0.2-0.4 from the gear swap. On a stock motor, you would likely not pick up anything from that gear swap.

It really depends on your particular motor build and car. My Project V picked up < 0.1 going from 3.00 to 3.55 rear gears. The stall converter helps more than gear changes, in my experience, and you already have that.
