Well, if it were me, I would run a small Edelbrock AVS carb. (Secondary opening is adjusted easily). BUT....you will probably run faster at WOT with a Holley. I vote 390 then.

If you want to try a 390DP first, I checked with a pal to see if he had a spare. No spare, but I can rob the one off his Late Model, he hasn't raced it in over a year.

I think I have (may have sold it) a 600VS you can try, don't recall the list # but I know it's not a #1850.
If you want more, I have a #3310 (rediculus) and a #9375 (even more rediculus); or less, a #7448, #4412 and #6425 (this 2bbl will flow more than a 390DP, 475+cfm if rated like a 4bbl).

I'd go with a 650DP before I went with a 600DP.

I kinda think the 570 Street Avenger carb you have would be a good choice for a well modified street slant six. I don't know where they get 570, it has the same venturi and throttle bore as the 450 Truck Carb you have.
I know some have good luck with the 500 Edlebrock but I don't like the huge boosters, it appears to be a 600 with the flow restricting boosters giving it the 500 rating.

What air bleeds are you running?

The 390 you link to is the Nascrap 390? What about the other 390?

What other 390DP are you talking about?

Zilla- So you have run the 390 NASCAR carb? What are your setting? Please. :D These carbs come with out high speed air bleeds new. The guy/girl that owned it before you must have screwed some in. What size are they?
I now own one of these carbs and things look very promising so far. I know you like to be a little secretive, but I'd like to make it to the track this Friday. I am in a bit of a hurry to get a 14 second pass time slip. I'll explain when I am aloud to do so. Don't ask, I'll tell you guys when I can. But in the mean time those setting would be very handy in getting me in the ballpark.

Brenn,

In the other thread about this topic you mentioned it was a little lean on the top end. So go smaller on the air bleeds and the top end will get richer. Cut and try, cut and try.

Brennan,

My buddy has a 64 Valiant he just finished, with a SL6 motor very similar to yours, bored .090 over. but not stroked. 10 to 1 compression, .550 lift on the cam, Clifford set up like yours but with a smaller 2.5" tail pipe. He is using a Holley 600 double pumper and it is very smooth, no bogs it just scoots. No drone either, but a very nice sound. The track opened a couple of weeks ago and his first time slip was a 14.06. He is using a spool with 4.11 gears. Not bad for P235 14" tires. The engine is only 3 weeks old so he is still tuning. I have listened to it and watched it many times over the past 3 weeks. The 600 DP seems to very responsive for his build.

I hope all goes well with yours, just wanted to let you know that a 600DP isn't too big like some fear. :D

I would run a 600 DP rather than a 600 VS on a Slant.

My guess is that Ted's buddy's car is about 400 lbs lighter than Bren's, and a more limited purpose vehicle.

That's exactly what it is. :) Edelbrock will tell you the same thing.....If I remember right, even the air bleeds are the same. You could actually change the boosters on a 500 and get a 600. Cheap, yes, but effective. I think that's why Holleys are better in race situations....they pay more attention to venturi shape, and size them accordingly.
