Thanks Matt; I've never had a lean burn system myself and didn't appreciate that they used different pickup. My '73 and '75 /6 (not lean burn) definitely used the Hall effect pickup. I found a diagram showing the Hall output at http://www.wellsmfgcorp.com/pdf/Counterpoint3_1.pdf

Not correct. ALL!!!!!!! slant six OEM distributors are magnetic reluctance, not hall effect. Easiest way to tell magnetic reluctance from hall effect pickups, is to look at the wires. Magnetic reluctance has two wires, hall effect has three wires. Mag reluctance is a "signal generator", if you put a volt meter on the two wires and spin the dist, you will get a voltage reading. A hall effect sensor is a switch. It needs a voltage applied to two of the wires, in order to get an output signal.

Your memory is definitely not serving up files accurately, I'm afraid. If you've ever owned any Chrysler 2.2 or 2.5 engines, perhaps that is the sensor you're remembering.

This is indeed an article on Hall Effect sensors...but has nothing to do with slant-6 engines.
