It would be much easier to teach yourself not to drive like an idiot.
For me....easier to put in the cage......
Good point. Plus I spent all this time learning to drive like an idiot...

I was also thinking about tacking on a bracket for a shoulder belt.
If you're going to put in a roll bar or cage, go ahead and put in a 5- or 6-point harness.

I'm considering getting a 4 or 8 point roll bar from Jegs or Summit for my A-body convertible. Mainly for structural support, and safety in an inverted driving situation. I was also thinking about tacking on a bracket for a shoulder belt. Has anyone welded one into a convertible or other body type?
WOW, two pages and no straight forward answers.

My brothers "street legal" drag car is a Muskrat convert and he has a 6 point cage in it because the doors weren't closing properly anymore. I'm sure wouldn't want to get inverted without the metal above me so you do what you got to do. If you go racing and have a cage you will need to upgrade your belts every two years. Without the cage, you can run your lap belts. (Ya, figure that out and yes, I know we have already had this discussion)

BTW... After this winter's "rebuild" and the step up from E85 to E98 he has been warned that if he doesn't upgrade to a cage he wont be back to the local track. On a side note... I am still the slowest car at the track. Oh well. I go rounds

Thanks for the straightforward answer, CARS. Once you have been upside down, it kind of stays in the back of your mind. I was going the speed limit and had two hands on the wheel when it happened. Mostly I'm trying to reduce the cowl shake found in most old convertibles. My girl wouldn't wear the lap belts, and I doubt she'd go for the six point harness. I think a shoulder belt would be about right. 8)

Upgrade the belts every 2 years? Seriously?

Cheers, Wizard

Only if you want to compete at an NHRA or IHRA drag strip.

The RCI 4 point harnesses in the rear seats in my Sub are worn out after 4 years of use.

The Wesco front 4 points are in nice shape 4 years later.

The RCIs are hard to adjust...the Wescos a pleasure.

I can see why they want those Chinese Cheapy harnesses swapped out regularly.
