slantsixdan,

so you have checked the nissan head swap out then?, would be nice to know before i waste my time looking at it that there is no way in he\\ it will work, no hard feelings

thanx

morgan
No offense, but this comes up aboot 4 times a year.

There is no suitable donor to swap.

An OHC conversion is possible but not practical.

The Toyota head swap was bogus.

The sectioned 5.7 Hemi head swap was also bogus.

There is no current plan to do an aluminum head, nor is there a profitable market for it.

True....but of all the $#!+ I never did....that one got the most attention...

I also remember a time when my dipshit Mustang trans swap was considered radical....

Im saving up beer cans for my aluminum head casting party.....

It was? Thought that was the only legit one out of the bunch.

You have a reasonable question. The trouble is the slant block is cast with bore centres in two groups of three instead of 1 group of six like everything else. .
Dan sent me book earlier this year about the history of Chrysler engines - this spacing issue - has been going on since straight eight days - even the inverted V16 aircraft engine :?

Looked installed to me - would love to see a clip of it running :D

I wouldn't I haven't given up on a couple ideas including finding a way to get a common v8 roller rocker to mount onto the slant six. What you want to look at is a book by Leo Santucci on Inline Six Performance where he addresses this idea for the chevy heads. Than you want to look at the BMW inline series that not only has a closer bore size but an exact bore spacing. Than you'll want to look at an aluminum block that has the open source and find a way to press in a head adaptor or something along the lines to create a new surface deck. The only problem I haven't addressed is dealing with the crank to OHC dealo which I'm not a fan of. So, let's roll with this ball before we say it can't be done.
The only thing that can't be done is to fix a broken heart or the crack of dawn. Or getting my girlfriend to get changing her mind.

Are you sure they aren't just drinking all your beer and you think they are helping you collect aluminum??

What's the point? The L28 head isn't much better than the S6 head, if any. It's the same design (intake and exhaust on the same side), so it's really not even worth considering. I bet the S6 head flows better.

Edit: didn't notice there was a second page to this :p There was a guy who made a DOHC head for a 2.5 out of 5 different machined pieces of aluminum, long time ago, like in the 80's I think. So it may be possible to do something like that, but it'd be way expensive and out of reach of 99.9% of us.

You can make big improvements in the slant, but if you want a high tech I6 you're much better off buying one than turning a 4 main bearing, severely undersquare 225 into something it's not.

Want an OHC I6? There are plenty; from the little 2.0 liter Nissan RB20DE to the 4160cc (254ci) GM Vortec 4200. Even the diminutive 2.0L RB20E with one cam makes as much horsepower as a stock 3.7L slant even if it is down on torque. The 4200 Vortec is 270hp/275 fl/lbs stock. Even the old school 240Z engine was rated at 150hp from 2.4L when the 225 still had it's 145hp rating. Then we have all the BMW and Benz OHC sixes. Heck, a BMW 325is would pull away from my road race '66 Dart on the straights at PIR and that car ran 14.6s in the 1/4 mile with a mild 318.

The point is enjoy the slant for what it is, but if you want something different that's fine.

Wait till you see how I mate 2 slant blocks/1 crank to make a 450" V12.
That fantasy has BMW V12 Motronic engine control........

( when I took my slant head to the machine shop last winter I told the apprentice the head was for a 1949 Ferrari V12. It was handled carefully)

Easier is the twin slant , mid engine Dart Limo....I have the transfer case for that. Im thinking 80s Eagle wagon AWD front suspension....

Dreaming is free and fun......
