Quote: It is for emissions.
No, it's for money extraction (from the sucker gullible enough to buy it, to the huckster unscrupulous enough to sell it.)Quote: That very well may not be a factory part
No need to surmise or suppose. It is not a factory part, period.Quote: to warm the A/F mix as it went through to the engine. This in turn, heated the engine faster. it would not surpirse me if it was a factory part, made by a different manufacturer and then slapped on the car. That sort of thing was common place by the 1970s, and definitely by the 1980s.
Oh, come on, will you? |

Quote: I doubt it is a factory part or even a factory intake for that matter. everything I have read says that 1979 was the last year for the 2bbl on the Volare / Aspen. the 1980's were all 1bbl's
Well, then I guess that shoots my theory all over hell... hehe.Scott It sounded good at least. ~THOR~ |

My sister used to have an 83 Olds Cutlass Ciera. It had the 2.8 six cylinder motor (or maybe it was a 3.0) and it had a factory A/F charge heater under the carb. It had a wire mesh across both throttle bores and plugged in. THat car got good gas mileage and performed well. I'm game to play with this on a slant six, or 318 for that matter. |

I have a screen that I found on a 80's slant Ramcharger in the junk yard. I have it out in the shop in my tool box. Anyone want to post it, I can email them a pic. I call it the "Turbinator." |

Chevettes had a ceramic grid heater under the carb back in the 80's. I think it was mostly to mask fuel mixing problems and to help with the cold start emissions cycle. I don't think it was ever really a good idea. |

"A fool and his money are soon parted." I'm down with playing with this stuff. I need to get my 5th ave running reliably and then I will get a baseline MPG figure. After that, I want to try this "snake oil". |
