Needless to say, my wife declined the opportunity to travel 1200 miles round trip in an unair-conditioned Dart in the middle of August.
Damn, you just reminded me that I need to work on my A/C!!! Then I don't have to sit in the staging lanes with the window down and get reminded by the starter that my window needs to be rolled up!!!

Thanks for the efforts, guys (and gal). I bet it won't be as hot as N. Carolina in August... No AC for me.

Not sure about other wives/husbands coming along. Seymour may bring Marty? Mike's wife may be there? Christine doesn't make car trips that long, unless we're moving across the country to start jobs or something.

Here's the hotel group rate info my wife was able to get so far. I'm assuming everyone would arrive and stay Friday, August 14, and check out Monday morning, August 17. Since she didn’t know how many folks would be sharing rooms, these are for single occupancy, for comparison purposes only. Double would probably cost a little more, or is specified:

Motel 6 Kearney
101 W Talmadge Rd, Kearney, NE - (308) 338-0705
$39 (normal price) but would not charge for additional people in a room
(normally $39 + $6 per person, however, when I check Motel 6 online, it says no rooms available for our dates...)

Comfort Inn Kearney
903 2nd. Ave. S., Kearney, NE - (308) 237-5858
$64.95 John Allison
(normally $69.95)

Days Inn Kearney
619 South 2nd Avenue, Kearney, NE - (308) 234-5699
$54.99 plus tax
(normally $84.99)

AmericInn Lodge & Suites of Kearney
215 W Talmadge Rd, Kearney, NE - (800) 396-5007
waiting for call back
(normally $99.90)

Quality Inn Kearney
121 3rd Ave., Kearney, NE - (308) 237-0838
70.99 single, 74.99 double
(normally $89.99)

Best Western Inn of Kearney
1010 3rd Ave, Kearney, NE - (308) 237-5185
$79.99 for single $5 more for a double
(normally $99.99)

Western Motel
824 E 25th St, Kearney, NE - (308) 234-2408
$40.00 plus tax
(normally $?)

I got the "normal" prices by just looking up a single room on their respective websites. Are we looking for the cheapest room, or the best deal? Motel 6 seems to be the cheapest ($39), and Days Inn seems to be the best deal ($30 off). If everyone needs to count their pennies, I'm okay with that, but I'd prefer to take advantage of the great deal Days Inn is offering us and get (what I assume is) a nicer room...

I'll plug in AmericInn if they return her call. Any thoughts? Can we all even agree on the same hotel? :)

Wow. Thanks for all that work, Vince.

I am OK with anything. Days Inn sounds good. How far are any of these from the track?

I bet several of us can agree on one place if we set our minds to it.

Lou

I'll pass the thanks along to my loving wife. She did all the work...:)

Almost every hotel was about 8-10 miles west of the track. The exception was the Western Motel, also the second cheapest, at around 6.5 miles away, but I kinda wonder how nice it would be...

Here's info on the Days Inn:

I'm up for what ever you guys and gals want to do.

I am kinda glad that Motel Sucks is full already. When they use to sponsor NHRA drag racing years ago I was supportive. Sure they keep the lights on for you... cuz if they don't the bugs come out to snack on the food left on the floor!!!!

So are we talking Friday and Saturday night or ???

Does the track even allow camping for the real troopers????

I'm trying to plan the trip from MN to NE. Trying to find a route that everyone can live with.

I swear my car has 2:20's but others may have 4:11's ( ). I don't care for 100% freeway driving, I like to see the wonderful US of A!!!

Yahoo maps gave me the option of clicking and dragging my route. Pretty cool. The fast way from my shop is 6 hrs and 50 some odd minutes but more miles due to taking interstates. For only less than an hour more we can drive 55ish and see some scenery and fewer miles.

Anyone else coming down the same general route and can join us?

Find an online map and put Comfrey 56019 and Kearney 68847 in and see where you fit in. We'll adjust to get as many in a caravan as possible.

Good plan to caravan. That would be a nicer route from your place. We'll have to see how people's schedules line up as we get closer to August. I'd be game for meeting at or near your place, Chris, on the way. 2-3 cars from da Cities at least.

I believe there is camping at the track too.

Vince, how many rooms do we need for a discount, or are these prices good for racers, or?

Seymour will want a room, and my bro, Neal, and I will want one. Days Inn looks great, so that's my vote at $55.

Lou

Well, Danielle told them 10 rooms. The next step after we agree on a hotel is to get semi-commitments for the total number of rooms, then Danielle will contact them and they'll reserve the block. I assume each of us will then be responsible for making our own reservations — we just let 'em know that we're with the "slant six race group" or some such. I'll confirm that when we settle on everything. (or if...?) :)

Sounds like 3 rooms so far. Can we get at least seven more takers?

Becky and I will take a room for 2 nights at that price.

But if things fall through for some reason, I am cool with tenting too.

I'm sure it's not an issue, but I was assuming most folks would arrive on Friday, stay three nights (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), and drive back on Monday.

Just make your reservations for 2 nights instead of all 3 when the time comes, and let me know if they give you any problems.

So, that's four rooms... keep 'em coming, gang...

After I went back to work and thought about it I realized I needed 3 nights. Thanks for pointing that out though in case I didn't come to my senses. (I've been painting way too much lately and I think my mind is as foggy as the air  )

I made the same mistake at first, and don't have paint fumes as an excuse... :D

It looks like I will have to head home Saturday night after Pizza Hut. I checked the vacation schedule and I start 12 hour shifts the Monday morning after the race. I can still get the Friday off, so it won't be a super whirlwind trip.
