here is the skinny on it. it is coming back to me now.
the inner weight in the governor retains the governor spring. By making the new weight with a wider top shoulder as you can see i did when i made mine for the max wedge it gives the spring more tension and so requires more RPM to over come it . I played with the one in my dragster sat . you have to make a new one as the only thing you can do with the old one is make is lighter or longer. That was the rub and why i had to make a new one. I think the 904 and the727 governor inner parts are interchangable. I borrowed a set late saturday night but haven't had a chance to compare yet. In the morning i will. The mod is less about weight and more about rasing spring pressure. if you raise the spring pressure it takes more RPM and centrifugal force to overcome it there by raising the shift points as the governor valves moves through it positions allowing oil pressure to the shift valves. If I am right in my memory then each weight assembly they sell will have a different width inner weight on the upper section to increase the spring pressure a specified amount raising the shift point. They may even have changed the spring strength.

I heard back from Rob Matthews at A&A Trans. He says the internal of the gov are the same for 727 and 904 and they have the govenor kits in stock
69.95 plus shipping. I already made mine but maybe I should get one from them already tested. In the dragster I cant pull the tailstock so it is always a trans R&R which is no fun.

I wound up making one like I did for the MAX WEDGE trans. I finally remembered what I did and why. It is back in the car and I have tested it on jack stands to see if it is functioning. It is. Hopefully track test this weekend.

I thought I had remembered how I made the govenor for my max wedge. Apparently I did not! Tested it at the track and found myself on two passes with the trans shifting way too early. With this cam the motor needs the RPM but i sent over 1/2 the track under the power curve waiting to get there. I should have bought the A&A govenor kit.
I am not pulling the trans again at least not this year so i am going to have to learn to take my hand off the hand brake and shift it manually.

Engne has enough power to fry the 29.5 X 10 slicks in the burnout but it has to be able to get to its RPM range. Tonite it could not half the time.
