They used BOTH an 8-1/4 (just like what we are all used to) OR teh Dana 35 in Cherokees; but again you need 97-older to get the correct splines. I dont believe they ever used an 8-1/4 as a front diff; so that one is moot; but if so as already was mentioned, if they had the gears would be reverse cut.

Before taking apart yard rear (at home) measure backlash. It should help you with setup to get the used gears to run quite.
