OK, You've been here?

We really need a FAQ that we can put up on the subject of using a degree wheel properly. Doc? Fopar? Josh? I may go out with the camera this weekend and get some quality time with a dismantled slant. It looks like the cam in Linda's GT is coming out for something a bit nastier, and the Hooptie engine will be out this weekend as well.

There was a "card" that came with your cam that gives you a bunch of numbers that relate to when "Events" happen as the cam turns, For instance; where the .050" Intake lift event occurs when referenced to top dead center on piston #1. By comparing when the cam events occur you can correct for variation in the grind, or modify the characteristics that the cam will exhibit when running by either advancing or retarding it.
I found my Erson to be fairly close to the specs, and that it ran best straight up in my build. It's still very nice to know that it's right. Some folks have found errors in cam grinds of several degrees. In that case, the engine won't operate as expected.

I think you'll be happy with the RV15M For a driver. It isn't going to have a choppy idle or anything like that. When my engine is warmed up, it's smooth as silk.

that is a wonderful news, more power with silk smooth manners... perfect. The recurving issue disturbs me.. I got a vacuum advance, I guess I need to play with it... There are some adjustable units from

Assuming you check everything out and you still want a reliable vacuum source. Common topic.

Look at the alternators from some diesel cars. Some of them have nifty vacuum pumps built right in. Adapt the alternator over.

Some GMC SUVs run electric vacuum pumps for the brake booster. So do some BMW sedans. Talk to your BMW dealer parts counter or one of the mechanics.

One guy I talked to built backup systems for the SUV's -- just parallel pumps for redundancy. A GT3 race chassis I bought had dual parallel fuel pumps for the same reason.

this is what I am asking for, I dont know but I dont trust engine vacuum, it feels as if its not enough for muliple brakes but maybe its my booster. Whatever I will first rebuild my booster than look for a second vacuum generator...

There's no basis for your distrust. Hundreds of millions of vehicles all over the world are operating with power brakes in which the power is supplied by engine vacuum, which is more than adequate. Use the symptoms to find and fix the problems with your system -- not to lead you off on flights of fancy about how to address the symptoms without fixing the problems. You do not need an auxiliary vacuum source, you just need to fix your car.

ok, perfect :) because I prefer using engine vacuum. Installing a second pump would not be so hard and most people in the shops told me that if I install a hotter cam then my vacuum will decraese... but before the cam I need to fix my brakes than measure my vacuum and move on...
thanks for the great help.. its nice to learn that engine vacuum is enough for serial brakings....

It might be that you are experiencing brake fade from the brakes getting too hot from repeated serial use.

I know when I owned my SLANT SIX the brakes were very marginal. On a long drive on a logging road they faded away completely. After that I had some custom Kevlar based linings made. They helped.

Talk with the mechanics locally that can see and test your car first hand.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
