Matt,

Well, hang in there and keep learning........the valve lash only takes about a 1/2 hour to do and it's a good chance to install a new rubber valve cover gasket.

Your shop teacher should at least let use the timing light.

The distributor curves change through out the years. Tell your teacher that they didn't stay the same........All your doing is trying to catch up with modern SL6 tuning which results in better mileage and power. From 1973 up to the 1980's there were a few good improvements. Electronic ignition is sure nice to have......no more points!

I didn't even think about tellin' him that! That's the perfect arguement. 8) Besides that, his timing light is a lot cooler than dad's. It's got the built in Tach and Dwell meters and it also has adjustable advance. Perfect for recurving, or so I understand.

Yeah, normaly points are a pain in the %$# but on a slant :x

By the way, I forgot to mention I have no Idea what jet size I have. The jet that's in there is whatever came stock on the Holley 1920 for 1970. Or at least it should be, but you know how 5th owner cars are.

By the way, posting things on here with a cell phone is a pain in the %$# too... that's why my last post sucked so much.

Hi DartMan, I don't know if this tip is worth anything, but if all other tips fail, this does no harm! Check your PCV valve for correct function, and for leaks in the hose. At idle, you should have a ~50 revs drop when squeezing the hose shut, but remember, you often have very little or no vacuum at all at idle, so it may be difficult to test without actually replacing the valve with another one. If faulty, it may in some cases 'steal' enough vacuum to upset your carburetor adjustments.
