Gary Bruner "Desperado" just won the Clay City race over Rodney Hargis in the "Grasshopper". Rodney was red by .003 on a 12.90 dialm. Gary ran a 12.50 on a 12.48 to Rodney's 12.95 on a 12.90. More later when I'm not typing on a cell phone |

| Post subject: | Congrats to Gary Bruner - good times |
We had 6 cars in eliminations. The TN crowd was there in force (Larry, Meril, Gary, Rodney and Lukas), and I was the 6th. We had some notable visitors, new and old friends: - Rob Simmons with eldest son Andrew, back stateside from service in multiple places (Iraq, Germany, Afghanistan). We thank Rob and his family for service and hard work over these years. It was great to see him in the flesh after several years away from the "Slanted Family!" - Wayne Venable from Indy area - workin on a Slant 6 '46 Ford pickup streetrod - John T (Dadtruck) from Indy - workin on a Slant 6 '83 D150 pickup - Nick (Valleyant) from Cinci - workin on 2 Slant projects - Jack Everhard (myfirstmopar) from Elizabethtown, TN - workin on a '76 Duster Slant 6 street/strip car - Michael (?) with the silver-with-blue-flames '62 Lancer we have seen on the internet and at the big shows It was great to have all these guys around asking questions and filling out the family! Many of us went out to Kathy's Country Kitchen in Clay City for dinner after the race Saturday. Mark Goodman sent a "no Meril" T-shirt to Rodney last week and Rodney held true by putting Meril out the 2nd round. We believe Meril still has the Eastern Points Championship locked up, but we are checking our figgers... I went out first round in Slantkota, but was pretty happy because I bested my fastest times on both cars this weekend - 15.39 @ 87.7 for the truck and 13.74 @ 94.7 in the V. Gary was low qualifier and ran a best of 12.49, I believe, in the heat of the afternoon. As we sat looking at the row of Slant cars in the pits, Meril noted that he had substantially worked on or built all of them!! Rob will be writing a race report for the next SSRN! Best to everyone, Lou |

Thanks Lou. You pretty much covered everything. I'll write up the stuff I have for the SSRN article. It was so great being back around this stuff and the Slanted Family again! The addiction has always been there, but has been in remission lately... Yeah, it's full blown again!! Meril and Lukus stayed over for the Mopar only bracket racing on Sunday. They were cutting some pretty good lights during time trials. Andrew and I left about 1 pm before eliminations, but I'll give Meril a call to see how they did and will add that to the SSRN article. Later, |

It was a pleasure meeting, talking, and hanging with fellow slanters. Spent most of my time talking with Lou, Gary, and Rob. Felt very welcome. Weather was great, although I was hoping for cooler temps -bet alot of the racers were as well. Even though I had nothing to run it was a great time. I would encourage anyone who is interested in A-bodies, slants, etc to go and attend a race and support our slant racers. Time very well spent! Thanks guys! DadTruck and I will definitely be back for more. |
