Quote: Pieced together a premium set (double-roller) at rock auto for a 64 Dodge W300
Those are the pieces, I'm trying to get in a "set", at a better price point then the individual pieces.
Crank: (25 teeth) Cloyes S339 $21.79 Cam: (50 teeth) Cloyes S338 $49.79 Chain: (66 double links 3/8" pitch) Cloyes C168 $14.05 Total $85.63 Less 5% $4.28 Parts cost $81.35 Shipping varies, but $11.18 for me to CA. So this may be highest expected. Grand Total $92.53 (didn't buy, just priced it out) |

The chain and the bottom gear are relatively common items, it's the top gear that's spendy. Perhaps just getting a deal on the top gear would suffice? The chain fits an array of motors, including some GM products. |

You either need a 'set' or all the 'pieces' from 1 vendor to consolidate shipping/handling costs. Any savings would be wiped out if you have to buy from 2 different vendors. |

Question Do the double roller steel gears ever wear out? I know the chains do, as i've had new against old; and the old ones are noticably longer. But I've never noticed any difference in the gears new vs old other than seeing that it was used. I've just changed the gears as a matter of course. What would you measure on the gear to see if it has worn? And with the gear sets that are smaller centerline cam to centerline crank, is the chain slightly shorter, gears slightly larger, both? I'm thinking that you might get away with just chain replacements after you have a double roller kit............ (maybe slightly shorter chains can compensate for any gear wear) |

Only one keyway. I find it is easier to change cam timing with a offset bushing in the cam gear, rather then removing and reinstalling the crank gear. |
