Lithium grease, and pull the rotor out and squirt some synthetic oil down the inside of shaft so the felt is soaked in plenty of oil. |

Yeah, what Ted said is fine. Vasoline will work as well, may not last as long as white or rather lithium grease. The point here is to keep the little tab that rides that six sided cam from wearing down, which would close up the point gap. That condenser one sees mounted adjacent to the set of points prevents arking across the gap among other electrical black magic tricks, preventing them from burning, so it is important that this device be in working order. |

Thanks guys. Tho, doesn't this mean removing the entire distributor to pull out rotor? Is there another way to lubricate that felting - perhaps via that oiler port on the side?

Nothing to disassemble, pull up on rotor button and remove it, look in hollow end of shaft. There should be a little felt tucked into to the shaft, if not cut one to fit. Give it a few drops of motor oil every 12,000 miles. |

Didn't even notice the felt there. Thanks! Just finished the valve-lash and it's running much better. Now on to the other items that need attention!
