I am not an expert, but having the iat after the intercooler makes sense to me, as you are tuning the engine, and the engine gets air after the cooler...

Now, if it is closer to the engine, or the cooler... I would guess it would heat soak more if you put it on top of the engine, than it would on the 'cooler end of the pipe.

When the engine is running, I would think the air moves fast enough, and the temp. change while going thru the pipe would be small.

Well, it makes sense to me anyway, hope someone that knows their stuff wil correct me if I am wrong

I am having trouble with hot starts on the 68 Dart with the IAT out on the fender. It heat soaks and you can see the air (IAT) temp climb up to 140 F and the MS compensates by leaning everything out by 10%, thus a lean condition.

I need to remount my IAT and see about that. Once I get an intercooler on here, I'll put it out at the outlet of the intercooler in front of the radiator so it won't heat soak under the hood.

Lou, Is your current IAT in the intake airflow? That seems like a silly question, but it kind of sounds as if it is just sitting out there on the fender. In front of the rad is probably a good idea. I will have to look and see if I have a bung for one. This would be great if I could fix this.
