Ted prefers to use less mechanical advance, and more vacuum advance than I do. If you carry heavy loads, his recommendations are better.
True, for reference my 74 Dart Swinger is heavy (3300 pounds), boxy and has an 8 3/4 rear with a 2.76 Sure-Grip. So there is more load on the motor.........It is probably at the other end of the spectrum from what your building.

I think my truck is around 3400-3500 lbs with an 8 1/4 with 3.55's and soon to be 4.56's

Having done the four barrel thing without a compression boost, I will offer a bit of advice.

You need to bump compression to gain any appreciable benefit from a four barrel carburetor.

It's good that you are looking into a recurve. You will need it to avoid detonation when you introduce more air to the system.

What have you done with the exhaust? I will promise you better increase by leaving the intake alone at stock comression, and focusing on the exhuast system if all else is original.
Shorter gears will make a profound difference. Couple that with free flowing exhaust, then bump the compression prior to installing the four barrel.

Next up is cam. For street driven, I can recommend the RV15M RDP. It really wakes up the mid-range.
My old one is going in my wifes '63 Dart GT, along with a modified by Doug, Dutra Dual with new casting front, Custom Doctor Dodge 2 bbl intake, and some other nice bits and pieces are in the works. Her car will be comfy, and rock'n roll.

Thanks for your insight CJ. I have run a 4bbl on a stock motor before with good results. I dont have the money for head work and a new cam right now. I itching to get rid of the leanburn,so I will be going ahead with the 4bbl. and headers.

As far as exhaust its going to be the hooker super comps, with 12-14" long 2.5" head pipes Y'ed into a single 2.25 through a Thrush perforated glasspack exiting in front of the passenger rear tire.

When I do the cam/head swap I will be going with something in .500+ lift range, and 10-1 compression. This is a street truck, but im good with a hairy cam since im running a 4 speed with such short gears.
