I having been running a medium priced mechanical gauge the last 10 years off the pressure switch location but tossed the nylon line that it came with and went with some nice soft copper to avoid any potential leaks. The copper line provides good insurance. |

Have you done the rod knock test I described yet. That test can isolate the problem to one cylinder. it can reduce the noise of broken rings ,piston slap and big end knock then do further tests on that cylinder if a noise reduction is evident. Also dont forget that oil pressure can be low due to excessive bearing clearance ie worn main /big end bearings. Forget the conspiracy theories for now, and concentrate on diagnosing the problem, not guessing at it. you might also want to grab yourself a mechanics stethescope.Good cheap tool for this problem. Sorry ,I did not mean to be pushy ,Im just curious about the noise ,I have a thing for Knock Knock Threads! Also earlier you stated you have a leaky head gasket. By this do you mean the rocker cover gasket ,or the actual head gasket that keeps the compression in? If you have a leaky head gasket ,and it leaks coolant into the oil,the oil can turn acidic and eat your bearings! Brendan. |

if i KNEW i had a leaky head gasket (and particularly if it were knocking), i think i would pull the head. note: this may lead to pulling the engine, depending on what you find. how do you know the head gasket is leaking? depending on the leak location, you could leak coolant into the cylinder, which can cause the engine to hydrolock and create serious damage. in all seriousness, if the head is leaking it needs to be repaired pronto. |

There is not combustion or coolant leakage. The leak is of oil to the outside. I need the car until the end of July to serve daily driver duty then I need another car. The car will be blown apart and restored after retirement.

I recently had a noise in my engine like you describe. Turns out two of my flex plate to torque convertor bolts were loose. One was halfway out and the other was finger tight. Tightened them up and no more clacky tappy rattly knock knock sound. |
