I just figured I'd stick up for 'Zilla since I rib him so much. Of course those cars aren't real street cars. But by the letter of the rules they are.

When I was stationed at Fort Bliss I drove my '64 Barracuda with 360/4 speed around. It had a huge Predator carb sticking out of the hood, the biggest cam Isky makes, and ran cherry bombs that always set off car alarms.

That thing was a real handful to drive and all of my neighbors hated it. Especially when I would fire it up to go to P.T. at 5 a.m.

It was licensed and insured and I drove it, but I wouldn't have driven that thing more than a few miles at a time!

I'm interested to see how Seymour does at this week-long street car race in his white car. No support vehicles, carry any parts you need, race 7 days and drive over 1000 miles total in between the tracks.
I think this is the best "street" car challenge anyone has come up with so far. Should be interesting to see what shows up and what wins. I bet Seymour and the valiant make the magazine.

It does sound like the best street car challenge I've heard of, for drags (One Lap of America covers all types of racing and >5000 road miles).

Seymour is hoping to make the mag, and I can't see how he won't.

Yeah, Magazines love that "Dare to be Different" thing.

Seymour will definitely put on a good show and win them over.

His car is definitely a street car.

I'm sure he'll put on a good show for everyone.

Ain't no denyin' his is a streeter.

Not to many "TRUE" street cars out there that race regularly...I've been doing it most of my life.

For ten years I raced twice per week to two class championships pulling the slicks out of my trunk for every race. I've only broke once in the thousand or more passes I've made. 90% of the time I was driving the car as my daily. Always running at least in the 12's, and the last few years well into the 11's.

In May, I drove 250 miles and street raced in the mountains for two days, then ran 1/8 mile at Madras Dragstrip in eastern Oregon...running 7.50's on my street radials in 90 degree heat @ 3000ft elevation, then drove the couple hundred miles home getting 14 mpg at 3500 rpm at a running temp of 165.

I have driven my GTO's all up and down the West coast and raced, never once putting the car on a trailer to get there or home.

All it takes is good preparation at every level. I have never had any money and run mostly stock parts...except my current engine, which I'm driving every day now...it has aftermarket rods, filled block, and JE pistons and solid roller cam...and it has been the first engine i've had with reliability issues due to valve spring failures...since taken care of...

Anyway, I just thought I'd chime in because I run into people all the time who claim to have a fast street car...but my definition of street means you can drive it anywhere a regular car can go. And mine can...and I can run the numbers on regular radials...Grand Ams...not sticky street tires or dot approved slicks.

Karl

OK Bagel that rust rocket may be faster than my race car if it doint blow up before Indy but you have to consider what your goal is. Mine was to win the National Championship nothing else. I came up a bit short but i fought a good fight and it took the best Slant Footbraker to do it. Next year Might be defferent. I have an engine to build this winter but the only thing i will say now is. Turbo now thats a plan :D :D

Oh great, more hot air out of you, huh?

My plan is to get my junk into the 11's. If I was skeered of blowing it up I'd take up freekin' golf.

This little good natured rivalry between Possum and 'Zilla has been missing as of late. I sure am glad it's back!

So, "You might be a..........." :?:

I like the turbo idea too Ron, but it's a ways off for me I'm afraid.

What are the details of the race that Seymour is running in? Who is putting it on? Is it sponsored by a magazine?? When ?....etc?

Thanks,
Rick

Seymour mentioned it in SSRN #38. It is Hot Rod Magazine's "Drag Week". It starts at KCIR and ends up in Martin, MI from 12-16 September. Check out hotrod.com.

But you didn't "gitter dun".
Whether I make the 11's or not remains to be seen. If the car blows up, that's all part of making a Slant go faster than it ever should have.

I have a spare moder that will be in by Indy if need be.

Golf sucks anyway.
