Rob, What are the entry fees? What time do time trials start each day?

Brian
I just got off the phone with Shane.

He will be publishing the flyer shortly.

Here's the skinny so far:

Entry Fee: $35 (it used to be $40)

Test & Tune Friday - Gates open at 5:00 / Testing 6:00 - Midnight
Saturday - Gates open at 10:00 / Time Trials 1:00 / Eliminations 4:00
Sunday - Gates open at 9:00 / Time Trials 10:30 / Eliminations 1:00

They will let us run the Knoxville Make-Up race on Saturday with no additional entry fee (no purse).

Pay Outs:

$300 - Win
$150 - Runner Up
$50 - Semi

Given the low car count the last several years I asked them to adjust their always generous purse. I didn't think it was fair to expect the same $400 Win / $200 Runner Up / $80 Semi payout when we haven't had more than 9 cars there in the last three years and likely won't have many this year.

There is camping allowed in the pits at no additional charge.

I updated the original post to put this information up front.

Rob,, or anyone else

I have been to Clay City once as a spectator,, but have never driven down that strip,, or any other for that matter.
so what do I need to know, other than go on the green light.. :)

* who do I pay the entry fee to and when
** is there an inspection,, how pickey are they, what will I need to have?
*** are there any edicate rules worth mentioning, I don't intend to do any burn outs,, so I can just drive around the water box,up to the tree and stage?
**** for my target ET,, who do I inform and when?
***** any thing else,, other than I am looking forward to this

thanks.

I have been to Clay City once as a spectator,, but have never driven down that strip,, or any other for that matter.
so what do I need to know, other than go on the green light.. :)

* who do I pay the entry fee to and when - At the front gate - Tell them you are racing in the Slant 6 class
** is there an inspection,, how pickey are they, what will I need to have? - Not like you would expect, they basically just give you a number. You'll take your entry card that you got at the gate when you paid. Check the "How to Drag Race" in the articles section for stuff like overflow bottle, battery hold down, etc..
*** are there any edicate rules worth mentioning, I don't intend to do any burn outs,, so I can just drive around the water box,up to the tree and stage? Yes, we can go over all of that at the track. Hey, if I can talk Cookie through it, you should be able to handle it.
**** for my target ET,, who do I inform and when? You'll have a couple time trials before eliminations to see where you're at. We can help you with that at the track as well. Are you planning to go up Friday night for the Test & Tune? That would be a great time to figure things out.
***** any thing else,, other than I am looking forward to this - We'll have time for plenty of bench racing to get you up to speed and calm the butterflies.
thanks.

I don't know yet if I will be there Friday night.

Are any other experienced racers planning to be there Friday night that can help John out..?

If no one else chimes in I will try to be there Friday night. Just not sure what time I'll make it. I have to work that day.

John,

Relax. It's all good.. Just ask the staff any questions you have. They are helpful and Wont think you are a dummy for asking. Tech At MP dragway is relaxed.. they just give you a sticker... and they didnt really look at much of anything when I was there a while back. I might bring a Helmet - even a motorcycle one will do. some tracks require it not matter how slow.. and If you are racing a fast car the helmet is cheap insurance if the Faster car in the other lane has a mishap.

Also Read Doc's article.

That should help you out.. in the Meantime:

I plan on being there Friday for TnT. I am sure there will be others as well. It is normal to have a little nervousness. Once you do it, the nervousness will go away.

Will someone please explain how Clay City can payout $500 per race with an entry fee of $35.

They lose money on our race I would say. But they like us and treat us very well. I think past racers have had great relationships with the track.

Yup, what Rick said!

The guys at Mountain Park have always had a great relationship with Slant 6 racers way back before the beginning of the SSRN series.

They have lost money on us for the last several years, but it has not lessened their enthusiastic support for us.

It has been my suggestion the last couple years that they adjust their payout because of our low turn out.

They even reserve the best pit space for us year after year under the big shade trees right by the tower, snack shack and bathrooms.

You really can't ask for better treatment than at Clay City! :D

We have been racing every year at MP Dragway for at least 15 yrs. I've been going for 11 yrs and this will be the first time I'll miss it, which makes me a little sad. I will miss everyone there for sure.

Great folks and very supportive. Bobby Rogers was a promoter for many years, doing events at MP Dragway, and is a Slant 6er. He ran the Mopar show for about 10 yrs before retiring from that.

We have a few tracks and sponsors like this, who are just enthusiastic about what we are doing, and we love going back to those tracks every year. N. Wilkesboro, NC and Empire Chrysler is the other main venue like this, and Mason-Dixon, MD is the latest addition to this honored set of tracks.

Slant on, everyone!

Lou
