What the best 1 barrel carb for my truck?

Reminder, my carb is the Economaster design/version, not a typical 1920. a lot of folks don't know the difference.

My brick weighs 3600 lb's most of the time with me and a full tank and a few things in the trunk.
On trips over the mountains I typically weigh in at 4,000 lbs. at a minimum.

Another thing to add to Reed's list is to go to a larger exhaust system. That really helps a lot even on a stock motor with the bigger valve lash. To be able to run at higher vacuum levels really helps on mileage no matter how much your rig weighs.

Dodge pickup trucks typically weigh in around 5300-5500 pounds, empty (add a few hundred pounds for four wheel drive equipment). Dodge vans typically weigh in the 3600 pound range empty (more with a fancy interior and a load).

There have been several people who have posted pictures of their home-made cold air intakes, but really it is very simple. Pick a spot that has good cold air flow, such as anywhere behind the grille. The factory cold air intakes on cars and truck starting in the late 70s drew from one of the inner fender wells. On vans it drew from above the grille and under the hood.

Once you have selected your inlet, go to your local hardware store and select any kind of flange fitting that has the right diameter opening and mount it at your intake point. Now get some dryer hose that will fit over the flange and over the end of the snorkel on your stock factory air cleaner and zip-tie the ends into place. Done! You can get fancy and scrounge junkyard pieces to have things like a neat clamp on the end of the hose to make it easy to pull off. That is what I did with my brother's 83 Dodge van.

1. $4.99 RV bulkhead sewer fitting, about 4" of hard black pipe to slide in it. When you go to the hardware store RV section, look for the red card board and vacuum bagged accessories. Some stores they are loose and not vacuum bagged.
2. The stock Super Six flex hose from the auto parts. $14.99. It comes with two built in clamps. One end slides on the Super Six two barrel or 80's truck single barrel air cleaner. The other over your RV fitting pipe.
3. and 4 bolts to secure the RV fitting.

I used the 1980 truck air cleaner base since it fits the 1920 Holley single barrel.
The ram air works so well I run a pre-filter over the air cleaner. That keeps the big chunks and sand out....

Is this the hose I need? It is for 1980 Aspen. If it is, my air cleaner intake is oval shaped and the hose is round. Will it conform?

That is what I bought but I have seen the square ones two.
That clip on mine is metal so it might conform.

Try asking for the square one.....to match yours.

I ordered one of each, round and square. The square one is only 18" long. That won't cut it. I'll rig up something and post back. Still looking for the RV fitting.

If you mount yours like mine 18" is plenty in fact mine is compressed/scrunched up and it keeps plenty of pressure on both fittings.

In that case, buy some black sewer pipe 45's and some more straight pipe for a longer reach. Still is cheap......and makes it easy to take apart when working on your rig...
