I will see if I can make the Shelton race, too.

Googled the track...

The straightaway looks OK, but it looks like all the fun and action are on the back side of the course where the curves are!

I can't win from losing...Looks like I won't make it, I have a commitment on Saturday that I won't be able to get out of...guess I'll look for the next one in my general area or see if one coincides with one of my jobsite visits out of state...

:(

I didn't see any slant six people at The Ridge, but we had a good time regardless. We got too many black flags (spins mostly) and had to sit out the last 2 hours of racing on Saturday. Sunday was better. The results aren't on the web site yet. The car was a top-10 car, but we need to be better drivers and get the pit stops streamlined to place well.

Sorry to hear about the penalty. If work didn't need me and my Grandmother passed away later that day, I had to stick close to home...

I gotta make the next "local" one though it looks like a hoot!!!

Josh, glad to hear you had a good time. If nothing terrible broke, you're better off than most teams. What class did they put you in? Any penalty laps? If you email Judge Phil and let him know how you finished and what (if anything) broke, he'll give your car a residual value so you'll know how much you can spend on repairs or improvements for next time.

One thing that really helped our pit stops was modifying our fuel jugs (without actually physically altering them, which the LeMons rules frown upon). We have a bunch of these VP Racing 5-gallon jugs, which actually hold closer to six gallons when full. You can buy the pre-made filler hose that screws into the cap, but we actually cobbled ours together from Home Depot parts so we could use larger fittings and 1" ID fill hose. Probably didn't save any money, but the larger hose makes for faster flow.

Even more important is to add air vent lines, so you don't have to unscrew the vent cap every time and invariably spill fuel out the vent while you have the jug inverted. Vinyl tubing, just big enough to go over the threaded part of the jug, held on with a hose clamp and looped so it faces downward when the jug sits on the ground and up in the air when you're filling the car. I think we slid screen door hinges inside the hose to keep them from kinking. The jugs in the picture will empty in about a minute without spilling a drop (until you inevitably overfill the tank, but that's what the drip pan is for).

After that, it's all choreography. You need a minimum of two people in fire suits for a pit stop, but we found we can shave about a minute off our stops when we have a third person suited up to help carry the jugs and strap in the new driver.

We were stuck in A class, no penalty laps. I'm not the car owner so I'm not worried about residual value. Judge Phil saw us in the penalty box enough I don't know that I would call on him even if I were the car owner.

My Scribner fuel jugs have flip caps for the vents, but I could make a long J-tube to stick in the open hole, but it might not be large enough as 3/16" would be about the largest that would fit. I already have 1" brass ball valves and hose on the caps.

Having a dedicated (non-driving) crew member who can act as a 3rd person for pit stops is one of the improvements I would like to see.

Some folks here were discussing a slant 6 powered Volvo for LeMons, but I think this is a better choice: https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/5096897681.html
