Something to keep in mind. They literally made millions of these engines and they typically went in the lower end ($) vehicles. The slant six was the corporate, go-to, base engine. With this in mind, you can see why there would be variances. That is why you really have to measure things. It isn't really that hard to cc a head. Look at this kit and you should be able to figure it out. http://www.ebay.com/itm/JEGS-Performanc ... 77&vxp=mtr You can also get inexpensive measuring calipers from places such as Harbor Freight to measure the distance from the piston (at top-dead-center) and the top of the cylinder block (deck height), as well as the thickness of the old head gasket. You really need to know all of these things on your particular engine to know what you are starting with to plan where you go. There really is no way around this. |

That is funny because my wife is a nurse and I got a syringe from her to take my head cc measurements. I had pieces of Plexiglas available, that was the easy part. I only listed the Head CC kit as I wasn't certain where to get the syringe (if they didn't have any medical contacts).

My calculator says 0.095" You may want to split that between the head and block. |

Yes, you will need pushrods from Smith Brothers, you can make a measuring fixture out of one of your old pushrods so you can lock in the length and send to them to make the correct length.

Okay so im pulling the motor out some time this weekend and because im kind of on a budget could i take .095 off the block? Or would it be more logical to change the pistons to domed with valve reliefs? Im looking at a .490 lift cam with about 230ish duration. Thanks |

Stock flat tin tops are the cheapest pistons, a set of domed pistons is going to set your wallet back quite a few hundred dollars....It's best to take some off the head and block so both mating surfaces are flat and true so the head gasket seals better... Taking the combined cut will still require pushrods... |
