A heavy van ,stiffer spring might help, Do not go to stiff, use lightest spring that provides good driveability. Try and find that sedan spring new, or at least measure the length of your spring. 0.035 is for Qualifying the step-up piston so it is in phase with throttle. So before you take carb apart turn the allen screw one turn clockwise, to richen, One more thing, if the gasket surface has been filed because of warped surface, . material removed. The rods might be low, if 0.10 was removed from top and another 0.10 from bowl gasket surface, the rods would be 0.020 too low. The v8 metering rod riser arm should let that spring push up the piston a little higher |

thx. i'll look for it. any chance of posting a pic of the 2 springs in question, side by side? it would help know which i have. my understanding is that there never was a super six available in the A vans. so i guess i have to ruff guess with the wagons. as for the lifter arm. i thought the slant 6 version had the little extra nibs on it. wouldn't that be the one to get the extra lift? since i have both versions of the carb here, i have both arms. but i only have one of the springs. i did use a buffer wheel to clean the mating surfaces of the body b4 reassembly. but no filing or machining. it is really much more driveable with the rods at .035. it only bogs now if i mash the pedal to the floor. i have tried 1/2 turn richer and leaner. leaner brought back some take off issues. richer was pretty much unchanged. |

as for the lifter arm. i thought the slant 6 version had the little extra nibs on it. wouldn't that be the one to get the extra lift? The little extra ribs on bottom of arm are piston stops, to limit upward travel, so the carb would not go to rich. A good thing, but may be not in this case. 1979 at least one carb number for wagons came with v8 metering rod. Different springs, lifter arms are tuning options. |

The factory manuals have test called accelerator pump intake and discharge, to test if the little balls are seating. Have you done this test? |

In the bbd link there are 2 books, one from carter, bbd 1 1/4 service manual see page 9. This is a bench test to see if intake check is seating and not leaking fuel back into bowl. To test put gas into bowl 1/2 inch deep, place pump into pump cylinder and while holding discharge ball down work pump up and down, and see where fuel goes. |
