40 at idle is God's plenty. A Slant will run a long time with 5 at idle.

At least on the earlier slants, the stock rocker shaft has a flat spot ground on one end. That flat spot goes up and toward the front of the car. Barring that, if you look at the ID of the rocker arms where they ride on the shaft, you should see a groove that feeds the oil passages. The oiling hole in the rocker shaft should be on the same side as that groove.

I agree, 40 psi at idle is plenty. 40 psi is fine even at wide open throttle for a street motor. The old rule of thumb is 10 psi per 1000 RPM minimum.

Might not be a bad idea to run a quart of automatic trans fluid in the crank case for awhile.
That stuff has some great detergent in it and will help clean things up for you.
I always run a quart in it just before an oil change.
After 2 or 3 rounds I have nice clean oil at change time.

Thanks - I ran some sea foam through it and it came out with all sorts of sludge in it (and some mud daubers) but this time it's staying nice and yellow. Pressure is around 40psi with the lighter oil I used this time as well, so I'm just going to go ahead and leave it. I'll throw some ATF in there before the next change.

Thanks for the help, everyone.
