They appear to be cast and on needle bearings on the shaft. 2 things that frighten me.
I had spoken with a Yellaterra rep at the PRI show - he'd mentioned that their rockers are machined from an extrusion and not castings. I'm not sure what they're doing for bearings, but it appears they come with their own shaft instead of using the stock piece.

I'm glad this exists, but it's a bit out of my budget.

They are definitely hard to see on my phone.

I looked at their site on my PC and found a lot more information than I did reading it on my phone. They describe the oiling as going to the pushrod cup, shaft bearing, and then the valve tip. That sounds much better than the RAS rockers I have.

Still, a lot of cash for very little gain.

OK ya crazy slantheads, I'm gonna bite on these YellaTerra 1.65 roller rockers. I've got my Weiand supercharged slant running pretty darn well; see it over on youtube at youtube.com/@BlackCoffeeGarage ... I want more breath, and the stock valvetrain is worn as it is. Big question:

What springs should I buy? Any links or Mopar P/N you've had good experience with? Also... best tool for spring compression/removal on a slant?

Thank you all :)

Hunter

Charrlie S. and others have made nice working homemade Spring Compressors from an old section of Rocker shaft - (could be Mopar LA with holes drilled) or slant 6.... I hate to have slant 6 stuff cut up but oh well... and 2 old rocker arms.

Congrats on getting the car on the road! Sounds/looks good in the video (pt 4). What cam and valves are you running, and what is your desired max RPM?

Slant on,
Lou

Thanks man! She's a rear runner now. Gets almost squirrely quick over 70mph thanks to gearing, when I pour on the beans!

She has a bone stock cam and valves, forged crank relatively low compression motor. Fully stock, had a budget rebuild a few years before I bought her. Max RPM will be 5500rpm, that's what my limiter pill in the MSD and there's no reason to push her harder. Just shooting for midlevel highway gains and reliability, and those YellaTerra reportedly hold their adjustment very well. I'll be simultaneously pulling lifters to check their health and putting in a copper head gasket to catch a couple tenths of compression & failsafe against blowouts (fel-pro ain't the best for boost!) and my experience is, under boost with small valves throwing them down the hole with a 1.65 should give me a little better circulation and catch a few HP (I know it's less effective on non-boost applications due to vacuum only prodiding so much throughput).

Figure springs and ratio rockers are a nice way to ensure I'm getting the most out of my stock block and cam. Considering a higher performance rebuild down the road but I don't want to dig that deep til next fall. Might even go dry sump at that point.

So what are your thoughts on springs?

Please post a picture of your rockers when you get them!

Your cam card should have a recommendation on the springs.
With that call Hughes, Comp Cams or someone you trust and get their recommendation.
Of course, keepers and locks to match the spring and valves you have.

That is what I would do.

I would just run Mopar 340 springs and keepers/locks to match. The stock keepers/locks should be just fine with those springs, IIRC, and I have never seen a broken stock keeper. I reused mine on a few head builds with 340 springs.

No need to do anything fancy here since you are running a stock cam and not wild boost or RPM. Really, I don't see why the stock springs wouldn't be OK, but I can understand your desire to make sure the valves don't float with old parts.

What tires/wheels are on that car? Please include tire size, make, model, and approximate age.

I'll be interested to see what is your max boost at or near max RPM once things are tuned up.

Keep havin' fun!

Lou

Thank you for the advice Lou! I will pick up those springs and bits soon. Ordering the Yella Terra kit in a few days! Right now she's just rolling on 2yr old BFGoodrich Radial T/A's 225/60/15 outback (215 up front, all on American Racing 5 spokes), she's got the stock 2.73 gear in a LSD 8 3/4 with disc brakes all around. Very much a highway car. Boost really kicks in at 70 mph/~3k RPM. It's a hoot bombing down the hill from Truckee down to Sacramento. We'll get final boost numbers off the dyno after i do rockers and head gasket!
