The engine is in the van. That hose is a temporary one that I used along with a gas can when I got it running. I left every opening closed so mud daubbers would build nests in them, lol.
All the bolt on parts on the left side of the engine have been removed for cleaning. The engine is just as it looks in the photos at the present time. No water pump, timing chain/cover or oil pan.

Two more places for you to clean out are:
1) service the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pump. There is info here at .org on how to do that, of if you can’t find it, post a question and someone will link it.
2) pull the rocker shaft and rockers. Closely note the orientation of the rocker shaft oil holes to assist with re assembly, spray carb cleaner through the rocker arm oiling holes. Flush out the inside of the rocker shaft. If you think the shaft is gunked internally you can knock out the end cup plugs and clean it throughly, but then you must replace the end cup plugs with new ones.
The lifter valley was a bear to clean out. The tops of the lifters were worse to get clean but I got it done with a squeeze bottle full of Kerosene, spraying the dirt out of the lifters, out through the drain holes and into a waiting oil pan on the ground.

Yes, I do need to disassemble the oil pump and clean out the pressure relief valve. I have a service manual but will most likely read up on it here before opening it up.

I spent a LOT of time soaking the rocker arms as they were all plugged! It took a month of multiple soakings and many hours taking guitar string to pick/poke/prod and clean out the dribble tubes in the rockers. I'm doing this on the cheap and didn't want to buy new rockers, nor did I pull the shaft plugs.
I spent a long time soaking it all and running all sorts of things into the shaft tube, through all the holes and down the inside. If there's anything left in there...it isn't much!

I couldn't get anything down the oil passage past the head/block. I've seen where others have had this same issue. If I don't get oil up to the head when I start it again, the head is coming off.

At that point I'll need to re-evaluate what I'm going to do. If I'm going to start throwing new parts at it I want to rebuild the entire engine. I don't have the spare cash to do that at the present time.

With the rest of the parts off the engine. They would have been in the way when I cleaned that area. I had the plugs in to prevent crud from getting into the cylinders.

remember the oil passage in the rear rocker stand dead ends at the rear cam journal. There is a through hole at the rear cam journal. but unless the through hole happens to align with the drilled oil hole in the head and the block above the cam you will not be able to probe through it.

I'm familiar with the the oil passages in a Slant six. I can't get past the top pf the head with mechanics wire, no matter how I bend it. The cam journal is more than double that length from the rocker shaft bolt hole. There are many suggestions in many posts from people experiencing the same issue but as to why that is, not one has ever come back to post what they discovered.
At this point, I'm going to put the engine back together and see if oil is getting to the rockers...then go from there.

I'll start a thread about my engines issues. I don't want to hijack this thread any more.
