Isn't the pump body cast metal???
Welding to cast metal (whether iron or aluminum) is definitely harder to do than plate steel or aluminum.

I think the aluminum could be welded Ok by the right person. I know a person! CAst Iron would be a little harder

I wonder........ I know McMaster-Carr sells aluminum pipe fittings. I wonder if a good aluminum welder could weld a 1/2 female pipe union onto that cut off casting to get something similar to the Aussie casting?
