Holley gave a fuel level spec for the 1920 carb. That put the fuel level right at the top air hole in the main well. Guess work, early version of 1945 did same thing .Later version may be not. There were different tubes used and different float settings early 3/64 and latter flush. Green dot is a good starting point for fuel level plus or minus 1/32. Keep notes for future reference. Todays gas with different specific gravity and density may affect fuel level using the old settings. Some have suggested lower float settings. Image

Pictures are upside down and measurements taken with out gasket in place. So take measure of your carb even or close fuel level to top air emulsion hole. Close is good enough. 3/64 down from top of bowl .0470 plus 1/32 .0312, =.0781, Go with 3/32 .1093, put some up ward pressure on the float. That should also lower fuel level. My best guess with todays fuel.

40 Micron filters are generally used for carbureted engines after the fuel pump. It's a good idea to use these along with a 100 micron pre-filter even with a mechanical fuel pump. 10 Micron Filters are used after the fuel filter with fuel injected engines and must be used along with 100 micron pre-filter. Found that statment on the net.

The Wix 33032 that I am currently using is rated at 20 micron nominal. I’ll try the 10 micron to see if that helps. Obviously the old fuel and the old fuel tank have plenty of debris to send downstream to the carb.

The float was bad. I removed it from the carb and placed it into a pail of gasoline. One of the float bulbs sank while the other sat on the surface. I used a heat gun to melt the solder (this is a brass float) and, when separated, one half of the brass shell was corroded significantly. I was unable to repair the damaged brass float, so I ordered a new (plastic) float.

Thanks for pictures and up date. About fuel pump is it new after market? This may be a problem for slants in future. After market pumps fuel pressure to high.

The fuel pump was the one found on the vehicle when we bought it. I’d assume that it’s at least 15-20 years old.

While I have not gone on a test drive (yet), the engine no longer stalls when I rock the car. Once I have the power steering pump rebuilt (probably later tomorrow), I'll give the car a test drive.
