"Brake washer" or "friction washer" under the driven (larger) gear in the gear case. Gotta be there, and thick enough to do its job, or there'll be problems: excessive spindown time, too much end play in the driven gear shaft (--->excessive wear at both ends of the shaft), etc. They're available in leather or fibre, in a range of thicknesses to account for gear case wear (or erosion by abrasive cleaning methods). see the array of brake washers for the Chrysler starter here.Attachment:
