The last of the Mopar caps weren't necessarily better than the aftermarket caps, and they have aluminum rather than copper or brass contacts (aluminum worked just fine on gazillions of engines, to be fair. On the other hand, caps were expected to be changed frequently). Been too many years since I looked at a final-production Mopar cap (№ 4289870AB, such as this one), so I don't know details on whether/how badly they were ground off-centre. Absent that knowledge I'd probably call them adequate but not super great. I think if I were going to look closely into the current state of distributor caps, and take measurements and photos to update the state of knowledge on a forum such as (oh, I donno) slantsix.org, I would probably start out with this one, this one, this one, and this one. |
