Thanks, Frank. Glad to hear plans are in the works for the Dart and for your wagon. I think I may have a set of rebuildable 198 rods. Where will you find the forged 2.2 pistons? Don't think they are easily available anymore, but maybe? Ping me in about a week after I get back from a trip and get settled and can look for the rods. Can talk on phone too after tomorrow... Lou |

I was mistaken; the pistons I used last time are hypereutectic rather than forged. But even these are getting scarce. The only places I've found Silvolite 1291H.STD (standard bore, aka ~0.045" over for a Slant) want $250 for a set of 4. That being said, assuming this is a legit site, Northern Auto Parts has a bunch of 2.2L piston options for much cheaper. Either 1291H (dished) in overbore sizes, or a couple different flat top varieties in standard bore. |

V6 Chevy pistons can be an option too if your willing to go .102 over? I think my compression was around 10 to 1. Can't remember if you are using this in a turbo set up. That would be too much compression then. |

This engine would be NA, and if possible use the OCG 346 cam that's been sitting on a shelf in my garage for 6 years. |

The Chev 2.8/3.1 pistons are a possibility for a large overbore, yep. Really, for a non-high-HP NA build, stock replacement 225 pistons (0.060" over) with stock rods are my default... Just don't buy the cheapest crap pistons. Silvolites are still good, I believe. Lou |

I would not worry about 198 rods. I used the 7.000" Molnar rods simply to get a good forged lightweight piston. I have my doubts about the actual power difference between a stock rod length and the long rod option. I have read a lot of different peoples opinions and I just don't think it matters that much from a power standpoint. |

If someone might have a few laying around I still have 3 MP 60 over/6 pistons here new in their boxes. I figured I'd find 3 more somewhere when it came back that my engine would clean up at 0.020 I never put any effort into finding the other 3. I'm a fan of boring an engine over the least amount for which oversized parts are available.

Isn't one big advantage of the long rods is you can use Mohlner rods and 2.2 pistons which are lighter and have thinner rings? |

Yes but if you are building something that need Molnar rods you are likely going to want a good forged piston like the Weisco's. |

Just an FYI. You cannot use the Molner/K1 rods with a "stock type" 2.2 flat top (non turbo) piston. Those pistons do not have provision for retaining the pin. They require a pressed rod small end. The Molner/K1 rods are only available in floating confiuration. You can use the 2.2 stock type turbo (dished) piston with the Molner/K1 rods as these pistons were full floating from the factory.
