Post subject:  Bore spacing

Slant six bore spacing is 4" center to center.

On a related note, the 2.2 / 2.5 shares the same bore spacing as the Neon 2.0, the cloud car 2.4, and the naturally aspirated 2.0 from the Diamond Star cars. It's even possible to put a 2.4 DOHC head on a 2.2 Turbo for a real monster of a four banger if you add some of the 2.4 Turbo parts (relentlessracing.com has a dyno graph of a Shadow making nearly 500 lb-ft of torque). If it is true that they share a common bore spacing with the slant six, someone with a well equipped workshop could probably build a DOHC slant six head out of two 2.4 heads with some cutting and welding.

From Hexhead, one of our F**d fans on FordSix.Com.

He affirms 3.98 to 4.00" bore spacings for the Slant Six.

Anyone like to confirm?

I assume the proposed 246 Slant (which never saw ligh of day) had a 3.56" bore, same as our 215 D-series Aussie sixes. I've seen some huge pistons put in the Slant six, so I think 3.98-4.00" sounds bang-on.

The info I have indicates that the /6 uses a 4.00" bore spacing center-to-center, except for #1 and #6, which are 3.98".

I have seen articles about cutting and welding heads for use on Ford 300 sixes; one article dealt with cutting the one end off of two early hemi heads and welding them together. I believe the chamber alignment to the cylinders wasn't perfect, but it was evidently used anyway.

The other article dealt with taking a bunch of Ford alu. SVO Cleveland heads that had cracks in individual chambers, cutting the heads into individual chambers, and welding them into one long "300 Cleveland" head.

Hey, /6'ers are an inventive bunch. I'm sure someone could weld up an exotic hybrid head...c'mon, its only money.

Has anyone measured the Jag six for bore center spacing. A few days ago I made some smudge marks on a piece of paper, measured later, pretty close to 4.0 inches. The Jag head appears to have a rectangular bolt pattern. It has double overhead cams, I believe "hemi" chambers.

I prefer a pushrod Slant six head that has raised ports similar to the 2.2/2.5 motor - with good quench, better port shape. The 12 inline ports was a great feature in the Mopar sixes when others had siamezed ports, raised intake ports would further help.
