Someone already asked me this?? Meril Bruner had a couple made from a friend. Said he could make more. VFN fiberglass and I think US Body also make them. Lou |

I noticed from the picture you have an 02 sensor on the front 3 collector. Do you have another one on the rear 3? I have the same headers. It's gonna be kind of wierd to have 3x3 headers and 2x2x2 WEBERS. Mike |

I think only 1 sensor is needed, unless something is really wrong with your engine. I haven't hooked that one up yet, actually. I've run sensors in the same spot in my two Darts, and they definitely helped tuning a ton. Lou |

Good day at the Farmington Slant 6 race last weekend. Went to the semis in Slant and won two rounds in footbrake wiht Project V. Worst light was a 0.146, best was a 0.000 (my first), most around 0.02-0.06. Two close redlights in practice and one that took me out of FB eliminations. Car was pretty consistent, but broke out against Ron P in the semis (10.56@66.4 on a 10.57 dial, fastest yet for car). Couldn't quite hear Leighton Drake yelling "LET OFF!" from the sidelines, so I stayed in it. Can't wait to get some real power under the hood. Nice to win a little $$$ - paid for the trip +$50... See you racers soon, Lou |

Updates. Went to N. Wilkesboro Slant race 8/6 and ran a best of 10.09. Not bad, but more tuning needed... Had a great day at Piedmont Dragway test'n'tune today from 1-4pm. Project V went 9.94@70mph right off the trailer. Car was running a little rich. My buddy Pete Mao from LA was visiting and he ran a few passes and helped with pit duties - thanks! James Longhurst also came up with his 70 Swinger w/ medium built 318. He ran a best of 9.35. Still needs more tuning, but a very cool car. Was great to have him along too! Ran into Larry Smith in his newly acquired 74 318 Swinger. He was running in the 9.5 range. After a couple of backup runs at 9.95 and 9.92, we dropped the exhaust system off after the Clifford Y-pipe (2" single back to Thrush Turbo). WOW! 9.59@72.5mph. Backup was 9.62. Then we added one 18" long 2.5" pipe and went 9.69@72 - hmm. We then added a 2.5" 90deg bend and turndown (about 20" more) and picked up another tenth - 9.59@72.5mph again. Finally, jetted the hly 500 2bbl down from 71/68 (inner/outer) to 68/66 and ran a days best of 9.52@72.77mph. 2.097sec 60ft with no wheelspin. Had to quit since the track was only open 1-4pm. Pretty darn good days tuning! Should be in the high 14s in the 1/4, no problem. Can't wait 'til the next road course outing. Last time I drove on track it was only a 17 sec car! Lou |

I bet that extra pipe really helps on the road course. |

I bet yer right! My plan is to have a short exhaust run with single 2.5" open muffler exiting diagonally in front of the driver side rear wheel. Will have to do a back-to-back with the piping on there now. Lou |

I'll think more about Mooresville. Should be another coupla tenths hiding in the V with a little more tuning. I'm very happy to be running this well with a 3.00 rear gear and such a mild motor (8.8:1 comp, 228@0.050" cam...). I think my Mike Jeffrey head has something to do with that... Lou |

Update: 10/23/05 at Piedmont Dragway test'n'tune. Only got 4 tuning runs because I let a couple of friends come and make a pass each and lots of cars there. Best of 9.56@72.98MPH with 2.13 60ft. I retarded the timing a bit and downjetted again, but to no avail. New exhaust apparently had very little effect (2.5" single with magnaflow muffler and exiting diagonally just in front of driver's rear wheel). Next outing is the road course layout at Rockingham on 11/5-6. I'll almost certainly go to the test'n'tune at The Rock dragstrip (1/4 mile) on the eve of 11/4 also. Lou |

| Post subject: | good times at the Rock - 11/4-6/05 |
Had a sweet track weekend at Rockingham with the Valiant. Was passing about 1/3 of the cars in lapping in the Advanced run group and ended up about mid pack in the time trial (range 1:09 - 1:21). Best time 1:14.1 in time trial, but I'm sure I had faster clean laps at other times. Again, freaked out a lot of BMW, Miata, Z car, etc drivers. Was great having more power and the Falken Azenis tires. Can't wait to try some real racing tires. Buddy Marc TerHorst ran the V to 1:16 TT laps and had a great time on Sunday only. The Rock road course is about 3/4 of the big NASCAR track with a 4-turn infield section for a total of 1.5 miles. Being on that 20-22 degree banking at 100+ is a crazy feeling - crams you down into the seat. Also went to the t'n't at The Rock dragstrip on Fri night right across the hwy and ran a best of 14.96@89. Best ever 1/8th mile time of 9.51@ 72.7. More tuning outta get us to 14.7 or so w/this combo. Had one misadjusted valve after a little rocker mishap. James Longhurst came along and was a big help as we had a loose crank/flexplate bolt issue and had to pull the trans back Sat morning before running. Gotta get his Swinger out there sometime. Thanks James! Leighton and Tom Drake came over all Sunday and hung out. Was great to have them there and they got some cool video and pics. Next up is to try some different carburation and fix a niggling trans leak. Hopefully get a set of new roller rockers on there too. Lou |

Ran Project V at Piedmont Dragway last weekend to a best of 9.50@74 MPH in the 1/8th. Also picked up a couple of round wins in Slant 6 eliminations. Car ran 15.10s at Clay City in the 1/4 mile in August. A bit off a best of 14.95@90MPH at the Rock last November. Was cool to see everybody there, notably Seymour Pederson from MN with his 62 Valiant racecar running 7.20s in the 1/8th (set two 1/8th mile records). Lou |
