Rick, where did you get your venturi parts from? |

I got a set of 4.89 gears from Slantzilla (Thanks Dennis) a year or so back and finally am getting them in a case. I have a new spool and side bearings and have the pinion bearings are on the way. My plans are to try and go after Gary Bruner's long standing 1/8 mile record of 7.87. My car has been 8.06 with the 4.30 gears so it would need to pick up about two tenths. Larger (40MM) Venturi's should add a few horsepower and the 4.89's should help maximize the use of all 3 gears. If that doesn't work I'll have to consider a little more compression! ![]() ![]() ![]() PS. I forgot to ask, but does anyone know where to get a more reasonably priced pinion seal. This 742 case pinion seal is $20, which I don't understand, when the bearings are only that much?? ![]() |

I ran into that on the last 742 I did too. I think I bought a couple off Rock Auto. |

What's the part# on that seal? Sometimes a cross reference search might turn something up. Is it not the same as the 489 seal? Greg |

IIRC, 742 is it's own. 489 and 741 are the same. Weird because they all use the same yokes. Did you look on Dr. Diff's website? Never mind, his are $18 too. |

I was going to get it from Dr Diff but he did not have the pinion bearings for sale individually. He only had them with the complete bearing and seal kit. I already had the side bearings for the spool. So I just ordered from Rock Auto. Bearing number is a Timken 7216 I believe. |

If it's a good seal, I would gladly pay $20. I try not to spend less than $10 on axle seals and trans front pump seals since usually the cheap ones are garbage. Lou |

You are right Lou. What bugs me is that a bearing that has all kinds of precision and machining done is $20 or less too.By comparison it makes no sense to me. |

Agreed, but the MBAs who decide how to market these and buy and sell them have no idea about such concepts. Lou |

Rick, Since I'm such a nice guy... I'll be glad to sell you a bearing for $95.99 that way you feel better about the seal costing $20. AND!... if you want to do a package deal I'll sell you a bearing for $110.99 and throw in the seal for $5! I won't even charge you shipping or tax! - How's that for a friend!? ![]() |
