That was kind of what I thought. Plus if it keeps going faster and not slower how bad can it be! ![]() ![]() Not interested in giving Stan a seizure! I just want him to get it worked out, and line up against him and race some day. ![]() ![]() |

Didn't mention that on my Friday night Test & tune there was probably 75 VW racers there. They were having their National Bug out on Saturday and were expecting over 100-120 cars there for their races! ![]() ![]() I talked to several of the VW folks and they were all very nice. Two of them made their way back to the pits to see my car. The one guy said ," I seen this nice Valiant, and then you turned that thing up and I knew it wasn't and V8!" I thanked him and told him that I enjoyed seeing the VW's run much more than I did the V8 cars. I guess we are both a little weird. |

The VW Crowd is cool and has much more of a following than Slant 6 racers do. There ar multiple clubs everywhere for the VW's and also tons of worldwide aftermarket support. Most Mopar or American car guys/gals will just throw the Slant 6 away and do something easier and cheaper because well it's easier and cheaper. not sure why that is but it is. Good to hear that you are making some connections with like-minded folks even if they do not have a slant 6. |

Like I said in the other thread, I had a great time at Mason Dixon Saturday at their T&T. 200+ cars and lots of nice people to talk to. Car ran 12.86, 12.76, 12.82 at @ 104mph.Made five 1/8 mile runs. They were 8.13, 8.05,8.07,8.08,8.08. My first run is always off by a tenth. The only real changes I made to the car was to add some more weight back in. Real glass and window operators. And I tried to go from @ 103 octane down to 100 to see if that made any difference. Not sure I can tell but it ran near its all time best all day, with a prevailing head/cross wind. On the very last 1/4 mile run I thought I would cut her loose and see if this thing would run 7.XX in the 1/8 mile. (It has gone 8.01) I set the shift light at 6700 and let her rip! ![]() ![]() Below you will see that I am making some progress on the next level of performance for me. All I need to do is order my clutch and pressure plate and get the linkage for the transmission. Pedals are already in and so is the hump. PS. I drove the car to work today! Yeah I enjoyed that. ![]() ![]()

Yeah it runs sooooo good, that I hate to mess with a good thing. But truthfully with our racing series slowing down and my desire to drive it more not less the manual with OD is a logical step. Truthfully if I can get it to hook up it should actually run quicker and mph better due to no converter slippage. Calling McLeod soon to order clutch! |

Got the new OD setup ready to go. I pulled the shifter and cleaned and lubricated it all. Probably had not been done in 25 years! ![]() I also needed a new 3/4 shift rod, and so I just made one. I made mine to bolt on the front with a shoulder bolt and a thin copper washer. It has almost zero play but still moves freely. Cost me about $8 in materials. A good used one was @ $50. However if I consider my time mine cost $299! ![]() ![]() Still debating when to do this swap. I am leaning towards running it one more year with the auto since it runs so well. I want to pull the engine when I do the swap to repaint the inner fenders of the engine bay the proper color. Then while the engine is out it would be a great time to pull the pan and check the bearings...etc. Then I run into project creep...... So I think it best to wait till next winter. Maybe I will be "really" retired by then. ![]() ![]() Attachment: IMG_7836.JPG [ 73.58 KiB | Viewed 952 times ] Attachment: IMG_7844.JPG [ 75.49 KiB | Viewed 952 times ] Attachment: IMG_7838.JPG [ 69.17 KiB | Viewed 952 times ] Attachment: IMG_7708.JPG [ 46.33 KiB | Viewed 952 times ] |
