6/9/20:

Got some Patterns Made for enclosing the Trans tunnel, and I am repurposing an old / Broken Hurst Shifter Handle for the T5 with some Collars and longer bolts from the hardware store.

Most of the Right Side Of the Trans Tunnel is done... about 2 Hours of welding little dots on the sheet metal.

Pictorial:
Made a bunch of templates on manila Folder Parts... Transferred to sheet metal then cut out.

Right Side Mostly Done.

Left Side Needs more metal added.

Hollow Collars and longer 8mm Bolts allow for Left Side Shifter Offset about 1" towards the driver.

No console.

I have carpet, took out most of the interior for this install,

Might have to get new carpet if this stuff does not fit tunnel Mods.

I have a set of red carpet, almost new, if you want it. Uncut for the floor, so you can do what you want.

Hi Lou, thanks for the offer, but that red carpet would be absolutley hideous in this car.

 :D

May want to fabricate a filler panel(s) to eliminate those 90* transitions. Carpet usually doesn't do too well with those. I usually end up forming a whole new tunnel so it stays smooth and covers well.

I got it all finished except for reinstalling some small interior trim and a new Shifter ball.

I don't have that much raw sheet metal or equipment to make a whole new tunnel. No english wheel power hammers etc.

I did make a metal cover that screws to the floor around the shifter.. that way if I want to change the shifter I have topside access without removing the trans.
Carpet fit okay, Its a bit wonky, but will suffice for now.
Seats and belts are back in.

6/12/20:

I finished the Trans Tunnel, Got it All welded up. Also Made an access plate to change the shifter from the top if/when needed. Reinstalled most of the interior and trimmed the Carpet to fit the shifter handle.
Got a Farilane / Cobra Galaxie shifter boot and bezel that I think looks alright. Waiting on a new shifter ball then probably will blast and Paint the shifter handle as now it's rusty mess.

Pics:
Tunnel Compete, Top cover is retained with 6 screws for shifter service.

Interior Reinstalled:
I have a Plan to replace the Stock Seats sometime.

I hear ya. We don't have anything heavy enough at the shop either, but the local steel houses can usually get a piece pretty close as long as you have a radius for each end. One other issue I've seen with building them as you did...will you be able to get the trans out?
We had a Belvedere that came in a while back with a TKO 600 swap, and the trans wouldn't come out without dropping the center link to get enough down angle to pull the trans out. He found out the hard way after messing with it in his driveway for 2 days.

Trans will come out. That is all built above the cutouts I created. The rear cutout has enough clearance for removal.

Very cool.

Thanks again for doing all the leg work on this swap and posting the guide. Its awesome to know that this is an achievable option for us.

Yep, Thanks, no Problem Dan-o!
I think I have been wanting to do the swap for about 15 years now, and I like to document stuff. Maybe I should go back to school and work for some automotive media company?!?!

Will be gathering Interest on another Group BellHousing Buy so watch the Transmission and / or parts for sale forums for that too.
