If you'd really been thinking you would have put the alternator on the driver's side where the p/s pump would be. Easy to make a bracket, and very short belt.

Easy for YOU to say. You're a "real" mechanic now!.

Congrats on the job swap.

My fabrication skills are suspect at best, so I try to do as little of it as possible. The aluminim bar stock was what they had used to mount the fuel cell in the Street Duster.

I just need to finish up some wiring (relays) and try to polish up the side plexiglass a little and I think I'll be ready to tow this thing to Clay City.

I had a local sign & graphics shop make up some GodsRods signs for the doors and the "Special Thanks To:" names for the trunk. I'll be having those put on this week. I promised the car would have those names on it before it hit an event.

I got the belt for the water pump in the mail yesterday, so I plan to swing by the garage this evening and throw it on there.

Still need to finish up wiring in those relays for the fuel pump, water pump and electric fan. Also need to wire the taillight and try one more time to clear up the blurry plexiglass side and back windows...

I've got a line on sumthin' that may take care of the side windows after Clay City...

I'll be dropping it off Monday morning for the GodsRods signs to be put on.

Just 7 days 'til Clay City!! :D

So, there I was...

I was waiting outside Ace Signs & Graphics this morning so I could drop off the Duster to have the GodsRods graphics put on.

They weren't open yet, so I was sitting on the side of the road... Along comes a big roll back tow truck that was too far over and he tagged the trailer, Duster and Tahoe.

The trailer took the worst of it. It won't be making it to Clay City.

The Duster needs a fender.

The Tahoe needs a mirror.

The tow truck will need a mirror, gas tank, tool box, wheel, tire, etc...

The lady in the Mercedez will need a new tire and maybe a wheel...

I'll post some pics this evening.

Yeah, it kinda sucked. I had just a couple minutes before walked around the trailer to check straps. A couple minutes or a couple inches and it could have been a very different story! Here's the pics:

Oh yeah, when I went back this evening to pick up the Duster (I was just gonna use the car dolly to get it back to the garage - about a half a mile) they hadn't put the graphics on. :(

Another big job came up and they figured I wasn't gonna make the race anyway... :?

We'll see if it gets done tomorrow.

I've got a very busy week at work, so I really don't have time for this extra drama.

I might have a decent steel fender laying around the shop Rob.

Thanks Dennis. I need to get through this week and the race at Clay City. Then I'll assess what the priorities in life are...

I might need to make a trip towards Indy soon (about 90 miles this side).

Maybe we can plan to meet up somewhere... (waiting for Wayne to pipe in with another "Road Trip" teaser... )

The sign shop just called to let me know the car has graphics! :D
(I have to work 'til 8 tonight... :( )

I had to file a claim myself with the other guy's insurance. :? So, that's still on hold... :x

3 Days 'til I have to leave for Clay City...

Okay, we got the "ready" part... What about "Willing and Able"..?

You gotta have all three ya know!

The towing company's insurance stepped up and is going to cover the rental trailer for the weekend, so I'm back headed in the right direction.

I picked up the U-haul trailer and Duster (with its new stickies  ) just in time to get back to work for another briefing. After 8 tonight I'll head back over to the garage to see what I can accomplish.

I'm on day 5 of another "insomnia adventure", so it might be smarter for me NOT to tow a car trailer or work with tools right now... :? Nah! I gotta Git R Dun!

I'll post pics of the new graphics later.

Good news Rob. You can do it. You can sleep after Sunday!! :D

Rob, I will post some pics of my Left side Alternator over in my 65 Valiant thread. Made it with very little fabrication.

Sounds good Rick. Thanks! After Clay City (and some recovery time) I want to work up the nerve to try out my brand new MIG welder that's been sitting there since my birthday back in May...

I didn't want to unload and reload the car tonight. I want to get the estimates done tomorrow. So I just wandered around the garage and gathered up a few things for the trip. I'm pretty much in a haze right now. I'm really hoping for some sleep tonight...

Here are a couple pics of the new GodsRods graphics and a better shot of how bad the fender is.

It looks like the fender is the only damage. The impact did move the car on the trailer quite a bit, but the clearance between the fender and door don't look out of whack. I think I got off lucky.

I MUST get a driver side mirror before I take the Tahoe to Clay City!

Glad you are okay with this bump in the road. The graphics look fantastic - who did the art?

The CARtoon was done back in the 90's by a friend of Chris Jones that came up with the "GodsRods" idea. He said I could use it. :D

I stopped by and got a couple estimates on the fender and also went back by Ace Signs & Graphics. They had forgotten to charge me for the lettering on the trunk. They appreciated my honesty, so decided not to charge me anyway. :D

I had them add some more lettering below GodsRods that says, "Christian Motorsports - Elizabethtown, KY". They also put on a couple of their business stickers. I guess we kinda sorta got our first sponsor! :D
