I have a set of lowering blocks - Does anyone know if these are legal to use as per IHRA / NHRA rules?
Look under most any car with SS springs on it that sits at a reasonable height and you will see lowering blocks. I have never seen any rule against them.
They are 2" aluminum with a centering nub on them. Greg |

Greg Be careful with the lowering blocks. I tried a set cast aluminum blocks and they crushed under torque. I then made a set out of solid block aluminum. They weren't very light but did the job. Ron Hamby |

I can always get some made at a local Machine shop - I have a guy there that's helped me out with some other oddball requests of mine. Greg |

Quote: You might think about the added leverage the blocks will give to the rear-end housing to wind up the rear springs.
Thanks Richard,![]() Richard I am assuming this is a Negative / undesirable effect? What would I do to make it right? I am still a newbie in the racing suspension / Geometry department. Greg |

Think of how the rear-end flexes the springs into a S shape. It needs to have the front section of the springs held as stiff as possible. Richard |

Good day to all, I've installed Caltracs on my Duster but I'm not quite finished and driving just yet to comment on how they work. In doing my homework I noticed alot of mopar stockers using them. I asked a guy that was running them on G/SA Demon if they actually made a difference and said he gained in 60' and et. His car picks both front wheels up equally. Might be worth lookin into. My two cents. Thanks Derek |

Thanks for the insight Derek. Thanks Derek I know caltracs are Great for Big HP cars, Say 450 and Up Horsepower, I really do not know if they will help our light Lower Powered slant cars. Some really fast slant 6 folks Use really Beat to death worn out Stock 5 leaf a body springs with a Few tricks. For now that's what I am leaning towards for price reasons. I am not ready to try caltracs yet. But Maybe in the future I will. I got my 500CFM eddy carb back on and Reworked the Dist. a bit - Re-drilled a Dorman replacement Dist Gear and Shimmed it up for less "bounce / Play" Also Welded up the advance Weights in the dist. Set it at 28* steady. Got the Preload, Clearances and gear pattern set up in My 4:56 Spool Pig. ![]() ![]() ![]() Also Polished My wheels :-0 Still waiting on my windshield to come in from percy's - i should have just bought Flat Sheet and made my own! Cant wait to get to the track! |

Hey Greg, do you have a vid of the car launching. Does the rear end get pushed into the track or gets sucked back up? Mine with out the Comp Eng Slide-a-Links would plant the rear and then throw it back into the car. I could see the tire loose its wrinkle and then hit again. My springs are from a 69 BB Cuda, both have 6 leafs and the left has two clamp in the front and one in the rear. Right has two clamps in the front and the rear. Slide-a-links lowered my 60's by one tenth into the low 1.50's. Might want to look into a helper of some sort. I think you're running 12's right? Later |

I do have some Vid's THat I can review - THey are not the best but At least I can see what it (was doing). From last year: www.youtube.com/hyperpack The rear did not appear to do anything last year - Just go straight. My car had a real soft launch and pretty slow 60' times. This year might be different. But I will look into it. Thanks, Greg |

I was behind Mark at Vegas last year. His car does leave very well for a leaf spring car. I tried a set of Cal-Tracs on my Duster when it was still running in the 17's. It did not gain any 60' or ET, but it did get way more consistent in the 60' and was much easier to dial in. They are on my '66 now, but I haven't raced it enough to tell if they did much of anything. It went 1.56 with J.C. Whitney springs, worn out stock shocks, and $19 Lakewood bolt-on slapper bars. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
