I think there is a good chance that gas prices with stay down into 2009, after that it is anybody's guess. Kearney is a pretty easy trip for me. Steve Nitti's supercharged Duster should be ready by next year and I am pretty sure he would be interested. We need a few cars from Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia though to make it worth the effort. Kearney is about 1,500 miles from San Francisco or Portland and 1,200 from Knoxville. That is about as central location as you can find.

About 1500 miles from me. I don't see myself being able to make it.

Now what kind of attitude is that??? Every year, thousands of freezing families come to Fl. to thaw out. This is only half the distance of a trip from MN to Disney World/Land (whatever you got down there with spinning tea-pots  )

hmmm. We need more to turn out for this. Would a cash prize in addition to the graduated purse bring more cars out? Anyone ever put an event together? Any ideas??

I could write something off since I own my own business but I wouldn't know how much until after tax time. And since this is election day I am a little worried about what my taxes are going to be like next year :( It would never be much but could be enough to cover the trip for someone  (but then again, that is less money for my trip and projects :P )

It seems like if you want people to pull a long way $$$, then maybe a big purse would be a big help.

In addition to the regular purse that would be offered, how about adding to the purse by the sales of some nice T-Shirts. I don't know about you but I like to have a nice Mopar or Slant Six T-shirt to wear. Here is my Idea. (And it may just be dumb) Have someone design a T-Shirt or even 2 different ones for the occasion. Someone one here has got to have some contacts or design skills to come up with some nice designs. Make them nice, good quality, and something that people would want to have. That's part one.

Part 2 is the cost. I don't know, but I'm guessing that the local dragstrip who were selling shirts for $18-20 probably gets them in bulk for a little less than that. I would say sell the shirts for $30 bucks each. Then $10 of each sale would be sent to Seymour or whomever is in charge of the race to put it towards the purse. If you had 2 shirts I would buy 2 for sure. How many other people here would do the same remains to be seen. But just suppose that 100 people would buy 2 shirts each, that would be $2000 for the purse.

Part 3 is the work. Someone would have to do the design, get them done and then ship all those shirts. This would be a labor of love as a lot of our Slant 6 stuff is. Well that was my idea. What do you think.

I actually thought of this a long time ago, but didn't know if it was a good idea or not. You could actually do this once a year on each coast. And have one big race purse on each coast where the big purse may bring some more racers, enthusiasm, and some publicity. Could you imagine a Slant 6 race with a $2000 to win prize? How about $3000? :D

Rick

I spoke to Mike about this Saturday night. He would like to see it happen.

I would toss a couple hundred into the pot myself.

I'm a graphic designer by trade. I'd be happy to do a design for free to help the cause, if someone else would coordinate the rest.

I like the t-shirt idea... LowerClassYouth/Chris has connections with a screenprinting shop, so we'll see if we can get some sample prices to post and see what people think.
I really want to see this race happen!

I'm sure we can drum up a fairly big purse, and/or payouts to everyone just for showing up to defray travel costs. I will throw in some too.

T-shirts are a great idea. Who would be in charge of the $$$? You guys don't know me from adam, as I don't know 99% of you. It would have to be one of the "big dawgs", someone who already has the history of coordinating the slant series or has put together successful group buys.

This is going to be great!!!

 I've got enough T-shirts to clothe most third world countries.

However, It would appear that Kearney's location would help with the car count. Based on most turnouts, a full eliminator (16 cars) would be quite a successful debut. That City Cruise and Vintage Drag weekend would be the one I'd look at. Do they have an all Mopar event? I didn't see one on the 2008 schedule.

Chris, a race isn't too difficult to put on. Our tech isn't very complex (Slant Six required). The track usually does the safety check. This is a place where we wouldn't be a minnow in a shark tank (St Louis)

A rough count off this post shows about 10-12 cars already interested.

Now if Sandy was to promise to bring some Red, I'd pull mine by foot with a rope to be there

Hey guys, here's a sample breakdown of prices. This is assuming 100% cotton white t-shirts, sizes S-XL. Hanes 50/50 would be $.14 less per shirt.

For two color fronts (+ white shirt color, so 3 colors total), it would be:
50 shirts: $6.93 each. 72 shirts 2CF is $6.21, and 100 shirts 2CF $5.84.
For three color fronts:
50 shirts - 3CF $8.82, 72 shirts -3CF $7.74, 100 shirts- 3CF $6.98
Four:
50 shirts – 4CF $10.71, 72 shirts – 4CF $9.27, 100 shirts – 4CF $8.10

2XL would be $1.34 extra per price point. There is also a $35 one-time fee to prep the artwork, no matter how many shirts are ordered.

Hope this makes sense.. what do you guys think?

That sounds great Steph. Price is real good, beyond fair.

Now the question is do we have a design contest? It's only fair to let everyone on this site vote on the design, isn't it???

If everyone is ok with this I think a seperate thread in the social corner is appropriate.
