I didnt even know you could get a slant in a GT.This car is beautiful,factory silver paint job,red bucket seat interior with console.The paint job on it is a cheap-o repaint,the factory color is much nicer! The 67 GT has always been my dream car,and I never thought I would own one.But with the help from my awesome mom and brother,she will be mine! It was a suprise of a lifetime when they told me that the Dart is mine and we get to pick it up this weekend! I got my dream girl to marry me and my dream car all in the same year,I feel like the luckiest guy in the world!

Also, anyone have any ideas for a cold/fresh air intake set up? It just seems like a factory air cleaner housing is really restrictive,and may be a source for hidden m.p.g/hp

I've been reading this thread and am frankly, a bit baffled.

I have a '68 Dart, 225, 904, 1 bbl. I average 19 mpg. And yes, I do burnouts with my 14" tires. I also tend to accelerate as fast as I can. She is wore out too... I kill mosquitoes for the whole track.

Why on earth would you want to drop a couple g's on a GV overdrive unit??

And yes, it runs low 12's! (in the 1/8th). But I go rounds because it is consistent.

Big wheels... well, plus 1 or 2 is fine but then again I personally don't like S.S. "fart cans".

The stock air cleaner is not the restrictive choke point you think it is. For MPG and driveability, though, you want a '76+ ducted factory stock thermostatic air cleaner with both the cold and hot air snorkels intact and the thermostatic system working correctly.

Well you must not have read very closely.I can get the entire GV assembly for 800.00 inspected with new synthetic fluid from a friend.Plus the cost of the adapter 100.00. So for under 1000 I can have an extreemly stout and reliable o.d system,with the ability to split gears(worth it or not).Show me how I can get overdrive for any cheaper without hacking up my car or converting to a manual trans. and I will be all ears!

It's late and I guess I should have gotten out the calculator to explain this, but what I am saying is that $1000.00 will buy a bunch of gas if you are only going to gain a few MPG's. You'll have to calculate that to see if it dollars out for you or not.

The second comment was a personal opinion. I feel that a car that came with 13's look good in 14's or 15's. A car that came with 15's look good in 16's or 17's. Just an opinion and I guess I should keep it to myself. It's all good

As for the OD.My current car has 43,000 miles on it.I bought it new in July of 07 with 2 miles on it.So in under 18 months I went 43000 miles.I was also working in Hawaii for 4 of those months,and my car sat in the garage that whole time unused.I drive alot. So if the gearvendors gets me 25% better fuel economy(I think that is what they claim) and I get 20 m.p.g, thats 5 m.p.g better.

43000/20= 2150 gallons of gas
43000/25= 1720 gallons of gas
2150-1720=430 gallons of gas difference.
430x2.00g=860 Dollars diff. for a typical year of driving for me.

Thats saying gas stays at or below 2 bux a gallon.Lets not kid ourselfs:

430x4.00g=1720 Dollars.

So yes it would be worth it.I could not only gain the difference back in a little over a year,but I would be using over 400 gallons less a year.In my opinion, when it comes to fuel mileage we should not be worried if the improvements will pay for themselves.ANY increase in fuel efficency is a good thing for the world!I think it should be every single persons responsibility to try and do whatever they can to improve the fuel efficency of their own vehicle,not only for themselves but for the world over!Even if the improvements will never pay for themselves,I still consider them worthy,cause even 1 m.p.g better means that I used that much less fuel.

Here again, I think I missed my point. I average 19 mpg with the factory pieces. No mods at all (yet ). I race it, drive it, cruise it, and one night even slept in it.

My opinion is that your money would be much better tuning and refining your existing, original parts.

That said, I admire your drive to save a few gallons!!! If you do go for the GV unit, please start a thread on the install and results.

Will do! I understand now what you were saying.The gearvendors will be the last mod I make.My plan was to build the engine,tune it up for the best power/economy take notes and record my m.p.g. THEN add the GV to see what kind of improvement it makes not only in economy,but in driveability. I am hoping the 4 speed auto(904+GV) Will be what the slant has needed to get awesome economy! My stock Dart got 22 in town and 26 Hwy stock 70 Dart 4 door 225 A/C and P/S with 14,000 orig. miles(My first car,I should never have sold it,true survivor! Had FACTORY tires on it when I bought it in 2001) That was checking my speedo with the hwy mile markers,and was pretty much dead on. Im thinking make the slant breathe better,in a lighter car with overdrive...should be fairly impressive!

Never happen. No way, no how. That may be what they claim (and yeah, I do see claims like that on their site) but you will never see an improvement anywhere near 25%. I'm not sure how they arrived at this number — either they're being really brazenly deceptive and assigning one rounded mileage percent per final-drive gear ratio percent, or they got this result on some completely dumb car not at all representative of what you're driving. Some kind of hot rod with a 600-cubic-inch engine and twin 4-barrels and a 4.56 rear axle or something like that.

With the car you have, in the type of service you describe, you will be doing very well to achieve a fuel economy improvement of about 12%.

That's not to say you shouldn't do the project, just that you should go into it with realistic expectations.

Just doing the basic mods on a 225 will get you to 25 mpg. When I bought my car it would average 18 to 19 mpg. After the rebuild it actually got worse for awhile then averaged the same. So, after many rebuilds on the carb I gave up and got a new one like Dan suggests, and overtime doing all the mods/upgrades Doc, Dan and others have suggested I am finally at 25 mpg. So just make a plan and start doing each mod and over time they will return you much more consistent mileage. As a result the car is allot more fun to drive.

Just got her home!!! Drove her 40 miles on the interstate without a hiccup!
Even the fender mounted turn signal indicators work! I am so happy,feels so good to drive an old mopar again,sooo right!!!
