reverse dual pattern... is this the same as what i have heard referred to as a split pattern? im wanting to change out the stock cams in both my truck (318) and my duster (225) and was planning on using a lunati voodoo series for my truck and i just looked at a comp on summit p/n CCA-64-240-4... for the slant would this be a decent choice? its a stock a-body auto trans 2.76 (hopefully i can change out the gears in the future)

Split-pattern and dual-pattern typically refer to a cam with more exhaust duration than intake duration. Reverse dual pattern then is, wait for it, wait for it, more intake duration than exhaust.

Most stock headed small blocks can use a little more exhaust duration than intake, but single pattern cams can and do work very well. Slants prefer more intake duration.

I don't buy off the shelf stuff any more. I go to Oregon Cam Grinding, specify what I want and a week later pay my $70 and take my cam home. For a 318 truck I would keep the duration short at about 260° advertised and a somewhat narrow the lobe displacement angle or lobe centerline of 108°.

If you have stock exhaust and a stock ignition advance curve I would upgrade both those things before attacking the cam. Same advice for the slant.

Well seems i could throw my two cents in since i finally got some work done on my car today. With my timing finally nice and the dist. welded i use the 270 erson cam on a 108 lobe center "before dist work" ran 9.7's in the 1/8 mile with a bit of bog with 0 initial timing and 30 total. Now 12 initial 28 total blows the tires off in first gear from a 10 to 15 mph role and puts me sideways from a launch I like the 270 is idles rumpy with the 108 lobe but behaves oh and 3000rpm converter is behind the motor. 280 should be fine i would assume only a little step up from the 270. Besides i like a loping idle whats the point of building another stock sounding motor.
