Mister_Perkins and DadTruck, A thought to consider...... Sounds like from a dead stop after the initial accelerator pump shot the fuel level in the bowl is slowly going down with out refilling all the way causing a lean condition. What carbs are you running? 1920 or 1945's? My old 1945 used to do that and it would drive me nuts! I found the old floats were rubbing on the sides of the bowl causing it not to drop to let more fuel in. I purchased new ones and had to carefully reshape them so they would fit drag free. I know there are many other problems like lack of fuel pressure, clogged lines and filters, water or junk in the bottom of the float bowl, etc... however, when you rebuild a 1945 make sure the floats aren't hanging up. |

Yeah .. I did nothing to the truck before it started acting up. Float thing you are talking about is a good culprit as well. I'll have to check that too. |

floats were fine. I Installed the electric pump right after the tank and it helped out a whole lot. The mechanical pump shipping got screwed up so I never ended up getting it. It's probably coming tuesday though so I'll just have to wait until then. Didnt rebuild the carb either. Everything is still in order it seems so I am just going to hold off on rebuilding it until it actually needs it. Cool thing did happen today though.. A friend that I havent seen in a really long time rolled up to my shop today in his 64 Dodge Dart. Immaculant condition. electronic ignition, 273CI V8. Offenhouser intake with 4bbl Holley carb, 2 1/2" dual exhaust, hooker headers, MOPAR valve covers, bored .40 over, new cams, reworked head.... ported and polished. Lots of other upgrades too, but its a really nice car. I took some pictures, but my camera battery is dead so I have to buy some new batteries. For some reason this is the only camera I've ever owned that requires batteries to hook up to a Pc.. Weird huh? |
